I don't understand why people are trying to chase chunks at top speed. When the big chunk breaks off, target with the X key, match speed, and you should be able to chase down every small chunk that breaks off easily. With an 80+ speed engine at about 300-400 speed, which is the typical chunk velocity, you're maneuvering in the Y-8 should bewell within the sweet spot.

Didnt even know that that would help but i already have an engine with 107 top speed so it works really well for mining. Maybe thats what everyone's problem is. I had this engine crafted for me so it's unlikley that any looted engines would be able to work well with Y-8.

Y-8 is great in consept but the fact i have a 35k cargo hold and can barly fill it with 1% of rocks goes to show how lame it is mining with this, however i mine 1500 units of rock in about 3 mins with a starfighter, i could mine more if only the cargo holds where bigger :/

Yeah, topping out your speed on the Y-8 is crazy because of its ridiculous acceleration/deceleration times.Mid-range speeds which are matching or just a little faster than the chunk work much better. Even at these low speeds, the high powered engines serve well, because they drive the sweet spot into higher velocities, giving you a little extra turning edge.

Though I haven't had any time to mine with it, I've used a looted 80 speed engine at those speeds testing it near the Planetary stations. The YPR isn't overly important because of the sweet spot enhancement, but the Y-8 handles very well at those median speeds. Coming at the station at top speed on the 80 engine using autopilot took so long to slow down that after the autopilot cut out, I still hit the station at 50% of max speed.

Bottom line, don't top out the engine on ANY POB ship when tight turning is called for, or you're just asking for trouble.
