A Shipwright who knows what he's doing can whip up a Mark III Capacitor (Level 5) with a 40+ regen. CapOverload will pump up its energy high enough to make the CapShunt work. Even then, that's frickin' overkill on an A-Wing or one of the ROTW ships. Weapon Overload 3 is the current vogue because its bugged. Weapon Overload 4 will REALLY drain your reactor a lot. I use a Mark II Cappie on my A-Wing (37 point something regen), and with CapOverload 4 and Weapon Overload 4, a single Advanced Blaster will bleed the reactor dead in 4 shots. (whenever I start using it again, that's getting changed)
Given that the loadout is so small, on my A-Wing I use a 12.8k Energy Mark II Reactor and I have power to burn with RO4 (never leave home without this).
On those littlefighters, armor is a waste of mass. At best, it buys you a shot of endurance simply for being there. You rarely catch me in a fighter with more than crap junk armor or Mark I Light armor.
Mark IV shields. Screw the regen rate, if you rely on that, you're dead anyway. Go for max protection and never fly without Cap to Shield Shunt. Even CSS2 will keep you going if you're hurting for memory space. 1900 is close to perfect balance on crafting, with the help of amazing successes on both the Enhancer and the shield itself, I've hit 1926 front/back on less than perfect resources.
Engines. Mark IV Engines, no matter what you do, make damned sure at least two of the maneuvering stats are near or better than 70 if you intend to PvP well in it. I've heard a lot of pilots who are hot for flight sims go for Pitch and Roll, since that's more like atmospheric flight. I personally use Pitch and Yaw more than anything, since its closer to real spaceflight. With a 15 point Shipwright, there's no reason not to be able to have 80+ speed and two stats near the 70 point. For a light fighter, you'll be using Engine Overload 3 or 4, so you'll get the speed stat back when you jazz it. I like the A-Wing, because what you see is what you get. If your engine says 102.2, you get 1022 speed in space (That's my PvE engine).
Droid Interface. Sell your soul, sell your sister, sell your wife, but get your hands on an old pre-nerf level 1 DI with speeds in the low teens. Speed is life when you live by CapShunt.
