Anyone checked to see if you can use an anti-decay kit on these things?
Nope, it's not an isurable item, or a ground weapon, the ADK won't work.

I have the pre-nerf reward engine but I've looted engines a bit better than that though they are all level 8-10 so the mass is quite high.
I am still waiting for the day I find a 100+ engine in the level 6-8 range but I'm doubting they exist any more.

I recently looted a level 10 engine with a top speed of 95 or so. After RE, it has a 101 top speed and a PYR in the 80's. I dropped this puppy in my YT-1300 and with EO4, I can fly at pretty high speeds with awesome agility. With the PYR where it is, I only need to slow down alittle bit to achieve optimal turning arc which is a good thing since the YT has a boatload of inertia and takes forever to deccelerate. Now if I can get a crew going, I should be able to dogfight with some of the slower Tier 4/5's out there. All I need to do is instruct my top gunner to shoot forward and I can position the ship to tail our target.
On another note,I just had my SW construct me a crafted engine which is fairly comparable to pre RE looted engines. The key is knowing your flying style and asking your SW to experiment on the key stats. For me when I dogfight, I usually pitch up to manneuver and to a lesser degree, with a combination of yawing and rolling. So I instructed my SW to experiment on speed first and then pitch. The final combine came out to be 90 top speed with 57 pitch. In order to compare with that of the reward engine, you need to mulitply the pitch in percentages with the top speed to come up with the turning speed to achieve the optimal turning arc when pitching. So for the crafted it came out to 51.3 (57% x 90) versus the reward engine of 49.8 (63% x 79). Obviously, if i were to RE the reward it would surpass the crafted engine. So based off of this, crafted engines can be comparable to preRE looted if you experiment based off of your flying style.
I hope this helps =)

Im going to take a guess that it was too fast vs mass
I beleive that was SOE's explantion.
Frankly, i think this engine is overrated. Having a super fast engine is acutally more of a hinderance than a bennfitt where most starfighters are concerned.

Ok, I guess I should have made my point a little clearer. My engine "find" is related to lower level recent drops. Everyone knows about how much faster engines used to be, but it's been up in the air as to what the new caps on speed are. Personally,my opinion is nowadays80.0 would be "perfect" on a level 6, and I know higher levels go faster.

I re'd a lvl 10 102 speed with PYR all at 85+. It's the best one I've seen so far as a Shipwright.
I also have a couple of level 8s with speeds between 85-90 and pyr in the 75-80 range.

I don't have a many level 4 engines as I'd like to base this on but it looks like the best level 4 engines will have PYR in the mid to high 60's and TS in the mid to high 70's. "Best" here means one engine out of a thousand. Mass would be in the low teens.

Psikobunny-
Looks like your level six engine is possible!
On the basis of 51 level six looted engines on Wanderhome here is my estimate of a
"one in a thousand" level 6 engine. (Note: this excludes both the pre-nurf prize engine with 92 speed and the post-nurf prize engine) :
Reactor Energy Drain: 1226.23
Mass: 8,035.50
PYR: 72.57 - 73.01 - 72.73
Top Speed: 84.62
Reverse engineering could add 3% to those numbers.
My best actual level six engine is:
Reactor Energy Drain: 1305
Mass: 9032.10
PYR: 67.9 - 68.1 - 66.9
Top Speed: 79
Before reverse engineering.
