To start, it took me a little time to fall in love with the X-Wing and I have recently earned my Ace. I have played with the B-Wing a little, but I have not found the sweet-spot on load-out.
Once I get the equipment to properly equip it, I am sure I will love it. As you have said, it is not meant to take on fighters...it is a damage-dealer.

Very nice! Too bad B-Wing is useless in pvp with the current pvp damage.

It is too slow to be a good bomber givein its shields and armor, and it can not defend its self against incoming fighters well at all.. All that fire power is useless if it is nearly imposible to bring it to bare. The tie bomber is a vastly superior craft.Message Edited by Arryth on 11-24-2004 06:20 AM
TIE Bomber? Superior?
Is that so? Seeing as the TIE Bomber has:
1) less mass
2) The same speed/handling stats as the b-wing
3) Less weapon hardpoints
I'd say someone is talking out of their ass! A ship is only as superior as its pilot. If you wanted to make your TIE bomber "superior" to a b-wing you would need to find a newb e-bay pilot.

Well, after toying with it myself....
The B wign doesn't suck, its just VERY VERY different from any other craft you could fly as an alliance pilot.
Manuvering.
This thing is VERY FINICKY. While it can't change its direction , speed up or slow down very fast, what i have noticed is how quickly you can point the nose of the ship in a given direction if you use the YAW and PITCH combined. The biggest problem with the B wing is oversteering. If you thought the difference between a Y wing and X wing was big, you ain't seen nothing tell you fly a B wing! Ive found that the best way to handle this craft is to pull on the stick straight left, right, up or down... use the YAW OR the PITCH, (not both at once). THat said, if you pull on the stick all the way in one direction, don't be surpisd if you oversteer.
Be deliberate, be steady, do not jerk the stick, and start coming out of your turns early.
Other than that, whats really intresting is configuring this craft, which is a unique problem unto itself.

Actually, I've seen stats on Allakhazam.com and here that show that the bomber turns much better than the Bwing, and doesn't have the same poor accel/decel rate.

I was severely dissapointed with the B wing and consequently went neutral on both the character I first made reb ace with and my alt. the Rhik will walk all over the B wing and furthermore the Krayt makes it look like a heap. You'd be hard pressed to out damage the 3 guns I have on the Krayt being levels 10's. 2 are about 4900 and one is 4400. still waiting for enough guns to RE the last one. anyhow. if you like that Beast, try neutral in a krayt.

From what I've been reading on this thread so far, it sounds like the B-Wing hasn't changed much since X-Wing vs TIE Fighter (XvT). With that being the case, the B-Wing CAN dogfight very well. Like a previous poster said, the key is to pull straight back (preferably) or left, right or down. Although back is faster, IMO. Just go full throttle into your loop, cut back your throttle (33- 50%), til you get just past half way into the turn, then push it down full throttle out of the turn. Most B Haters underestimate the B's turning ability, in the hands of a well-trained pilot, it is indeed a killing machine. The B-Wing is much more deadly in pairs, IMO. With good wingman-leader skills, the B is hard to beat, that is why you must be patient with it and learn everything there is to learn with it. Once you do that, you'll never go back, I think.

Id like to see this.. Ive tried all the tricks I know and the b-wing still simply underpreforms in a fight against other fighters. The turning is bad, the "over turning" makes it worse. The blaster spread is terrable, makeing hiting ties even harder. Its also slow. So if you could actually show me some working pilot tricks for it, that would be cool. Let me know the next time your takeing it out, so I can watch this.. In my opinion the b-wing is two slow and cumbersome to be usefull in pve, and completely useless in pvp. A signifacant improvement would be to make it at least is manuverable as a y-wing.

I'm still mastering the ship, though i love it's killing power. watching low level enemies blow up in a single hit feels magical. I test myself against speedy little pirates at dathomire sometimes and my proffeciency seems to be increasing. One an enemies engines are crippled the b wing can ravage them easily. It's also the only ship that seems to be able to handle tier 4 or 5 aggressor alone. That rear gun is killer but the b wing has the fire power to take them out fairly quickly.
One thing though, what kind of engine are you using? I have a great engine with a top speed of 102, but the actual speed of the b wing can only reach about 875 without boosters activated.

As an accomplished pilot my take is that this ship needs some loving on a number of fronts.
Over turn rates
Speed
Mass (a tad more for something that steers like the QE2 in dry dock)
Weapon convergence
As it stands I cannot recommened this ship to any of my customers, quite simply it sucks at everything apart from bombing the corvette. I would add it is not that good at that either since its so damned slow the guns on the bombing run exit tear you apart. If you get a T5 fighter on you, your going to be using the chat interface to call for help rather than evading, unless the AI is stupid enough to make the fighter come head on (which admitidly is a really good laugh)
Your better off with a KSE Firespray any day, it handles miles better than a Y wing (with a good engine, very close to an X wing in fact), has similar mass to a B, and more importantly for a bomber, has the same number of ordinance mounts as the B wing. Ok it has less weapon hardpoints, but given its mass (and the mass of the B wing) you can load out those mounts to full damage capacity. I know there is a cost argument with the KSE, but they are getting a lot more affordable, and deals can always be made with your friendly MSW to get you a keen price
Personally I use an A wing nearly all the time, but that's just me, I use my KSE to make suicide runs on the corvette for the benefit of my non master brethren.
Naturally, none of my comments will wash with the B wing loving crowd, and I respect that, I love my KSE, but I dont think ability wise it is a patch on my A wing

atm i have an A-Wing a B-Wing and a Nova in my DP.
from these 3 ships i use the Bwing almost exclusively. (occasional Nova trips as well).
after a few hours training (tier1s then upped the tier when i felt comfortable) i started to get the true potential of this ship.
with a pure blaster layout (4 L10 and L9 blasters) i rip through everything that comes along. i configured the blasters to single fire do i unload a more or less constant stream of destruction. with a high PYR engine it turns surprisingly fast. in PvP i just shoot in the general direction of my enemy and try to circle it. (with the high interia you can almost fly sideways
).
it takes some time and devotion to master but after that youre pretty much unstoppable.
and compared to the X-Wing you dont get hit much more often.

While some of the posters here know what they're talking about, when they say they don't like the B-Wing, many just don't understand its intended role.
As it has been said, the B-Wing is a heavy bomber, not a fighter. Its large enough thatits body should bereferred to as a fuselage, and not a chassis, like fighters are. Its not ment to be nimble, its not ment to be quick. Its ment to unleash hell upon a target, and have some left for more. Its role is destruction of larger craft, such as gunboats and capital ships. A ship like the B-Wing is also the type that should have at least one fighter escort to keep other fighters off of it.
Many of the people that hate the B-Wing are the ones who want all that mass, and the manuverability of an A-Wing.

I just fly my B wing for the love of flying it as it looks fantastic and the firepower with MKII space bombs is awsome most stuff is dead on 1 pass.
Also as far as manuoverability is concerned i did not go out and buy the 1st level 10 engine i could find with massive speed. What counts in the b wing is turn and pitch points on the engine not raw speed I have a lovely level 10 looted engine that has on average 69 on its turn and pitch rating, admittedly its only got a speed rating of 81 but you are never going to be able to outrun npcs in a b wing. Also dont treat it like an A wing or an X wing go easy on the Joystick and slacken off when you are turning in on targets this cuts out the inertia problem to a huge extent.
