Thread: The death of all pre-rotw ships...

In my eyes heavy ships (bombers) are not really competative in PvP unless they have the best equipment available. They also are different to fly but if you are good they aren't really bad. They have quite some weaknesses though.

Missiles used to be their strength (only the oppressor was really good in that respect) while maneuverable yet high firepower ships (X-Wing) could be a serious threat to them. Now you get extremely maneuverable ships with a great firepower on top of that.

I still don't see how that matches the topic.

I feel rather ambivalent about RotW.

As Kitten and other regular contributors have noted, ALL of our original ships are now obsolete. To add further insult to injury, none of these new super ships require a shipwright to craft them.

Yes, it's interesting to have a 180K mass X-Wing. Sure, a fighter with 90K mass and twice the maneuverability and guns of an A-Wing is kind of neat, too. But did the Devs ever take a good hard look at the balance of these new ships with the old or the effect that they would have on player crafters in the overall game? I'm pretty irked.

The new ships..yeh they're good but the thing which narks me the most is this.

The story arc of the Starwars universe.

E.G 'The A-wing is the fastest most agile starfighter in the galaxy' - quoted from numerous texts...erm ok, so why am I now being out manouvered by ships which should by all rights at 'this point in fictional time' be -OBSOLETE- and be standing in museums.

Same with the TIE Interceptor....that to me now just feels well..put it this way..a Z-95..regardless of new fancy names/mass should -not- be able to out perform a Squint or A-wing short of absolutely amazing piloting skills.

Don't get me wrong...I love RoTW...however, I can't help but feel that there are some serious canon issues here and it just doesn't add up in my oppinion. I've decided I'm going to be stubborn and stick to my A-wing for pvp..which may be naive but I'm not letting some noob 'd00d3' in a jedi sarfighter put me off the ship I love and they will be shot down because new pilots in these new ships still have a lot to learn about space pvp..and yeh sure I know some of the vets are going to be switching to newer ships but hey..I'm just stubborn and possibly not sound of mind .

-Col. Leaph Chausew (loving RotW, but with teething troubles atm :S)

P.S.

I guess..its just a new challenge really. We'll all get used to it and adapt in one way or another.

*nods* how much i love the new ground game post CU... the new ground area of kashyyk... and the combo missions (even though i think pilots should not have to be level 80 in a combat profession too)... the space balance is pretty much ruined

The claim that the fighters that came with Launch are Obsolete. I'm countering it.

What's the YP acceleration on a B-Wing? 50 dpss for Pitch and Yaw. So on a hard example with a Level 10 RE'd engine sporting a whopping 90 dps Pitch and Yaw turn rate, a B-Wing will take 1.8 seconds to hit the maximum turn rate. Let's compare that B-Wing to the new fighter using a RE'd reward engine. It's PY rate will only be about 70 since that's a level 6. However, it will achieve its maximum turn rate in 0.12 seconds. Those new ships will be on your tail so fast that it won't be funny.

Does that matter in a 1 on 1 situation? Nope. Almost any ship is effective before the merge. But in a large furball with multiple opponents where maneuvering counts and snapshots are all you get, anyone who hasn't slapped together a new RotW PvP ship is going to be at a serious disadvantage.

What he said... andyour armor and shields wont help either against a level 10 (or at least lvl 8 reward) gun.

You know what I see? I see that the Devs just created another job for themselves (job security). They introduce something in the game that will unbalance the system. So now we start to yell 'We need to balance space!!!'. Then they're going to come up with some solution to balance space (and add very colorful ANIMATED icons!!!) and they will call it Space Combat Upgrade (SCU...coming May 2006).

Guess I'm a little used to seeing all of...0-2 enemy players, with 0 being the most often, heh. Not much a chance at a "large furball" in my experience.

Besides, the advantage still shows in a mixed group of ships. Who are the enemy fighters going to go after first? The old ones? Won't they have the new ships on their tails, then? Or maybe going right for the new ones, in which case the old ones are left alive to get in position?

In a mixed group of ships, let's use some of the redone ships versus our old versions.

Old X-Wing: 100K mass
New X-Wing: 180K mass with the exact same maneuverability stats

Old A-Wing: 65K Mass
New Z-95: 95K Mass with double the maneuverability of the A-Wing

In the roles that these ships play, the new ships are clearly superior with vast increases in mass, maneuverability or both.

And in the PvE role where the B-Wing does quite nicely, it's now going to face serious competition from the heavy X-Wing. You don't have to worry about oversteering too much, but you can still pack 3 Reward Guns with ease on the heavy X.

I love my Rihk... things a tank and I've been regularly out-shooting my guildies who have more nimble craft. Granted, it manuevers like a sow, but it takes and deals the damage like something crazy.
