I've been a Rebel since the beginning, but that would be enough to make me turn Imp in a second!
After seeing that video at fan fest, It makes me glad I've been working on switching to imperial from Rebel. Of course this all might not be in game for months to come but still... To those wanting a link... sorry. Far as I know it was only shown on the big screen unless someone has a bootleg copy of it floating around.
All sounds good for IMP and REB but what about the FREELANCER pilots?
I choose to be freelance so if ever i were to decide to change ground faction i would not have to regrind pilot
I can be imp, reb, or neutral in space all with just a quick ground faction change but limited to my freelancer ships. How will capital ships fit in with FREELANCE pilots?
It wouldn't be that hard guys...of course they would never let a single player own an ISD just like a normal POB ship, that would be rediculous.
What they could probably do is have capital ships work as faction perks, similar to faction bases but in space. What would happen is an entire guild would spend a ton of time grinding out faction points and pool them together, to maybe purchase a one-time-use schematic of the ISD, then spend a lot of time grinding out money and resources to build the ISD. After that, they can position it, and it would be like a faction base but in space. So they can land inside and get missions from the ship to make money and FP. Normally it just sits there, however you could go into the bridge, and perhaps someone like the guild leader would be able to use a radial menu to set a course and make it move, either to go to a different position, to move around for a battle, or to hyperspace to another system.
Of course it would be possible to destroy the ISD, just like with a faction base. However, it would be really, really hard to do. The ship could probably have a bunch of NPC turrets (possibly extra turret NPCs can be purchased with faction points) and fighter wings that defend it (also purchased with FP). It would most likely require an enemy capital ship to have an even chance, and when the ship is attacked the rest of the guild and anyone else interested would be alerted ("The ISD Virtue is under attack!"). That way players can show up in their fighters to help defend, or they can control the turrets themselves.
When the star destroyer's shields finally get knocked down after a severe pounding, rebel ships can then begin to work on taking out the turrets, and then use a corvette to land inside the docking bay and begin a raid from the inside to either capture it or set off a self destruct mechanism. Or they could contiue using their ships to attack the destroyer, which would just take longer.

I mean, really, I hope the system is something like that. Otherwise it would just be silly.
So what's to stop people putting a ISD right by the rebel Vet spawn? Because, frankly, that's the very first thing I'd expect to see - Corvette camping.
