Thread: RG Int hit box blocks missiles too?!

Well I was in DS with a guildie the other day, when along comes a JSF and TIE heavy combo. Cool, I think, im in my heavy X and Yanus is tootling along in his nubship (instead of his flying bathtub of death), so we attack, and kill them. Next time up, the TIE heavy guy is in a RG Int. I didnt spot it at first, but, when my shots did no damage I squinted and went "Motherbleeping bleepard, bleeping bleeper thinks he can kill me with a nubby exploit ship, no bleeping way!" So i lock up his engine (must ahve been crap I stayed on his tail the whole time he didnt get a shot off!) and locked up his engine.

WHOOSH! My mark 3 high damage proton carves the twin ion engines right off that tiny hitbox. So i slam on the barkes and come to a halt behind, slighty above and to the left of him. I launch another missile at him and it curves round and impacts on his left solar panel.

BOOM! big explosion,NO damage. So I swing round behind him and pop off another mark 3 into his tailpipe from directly behind.

Boom! he is dead, I tell yan about the RG Int looser, we laugh, I fly to bestine, logout and head out to the pub.

Couple days later my alt is hunting with him and I start talking to him about him using the RG Int and he turns out to be another of the people flying it who dont know its bugged. I refrain from pointing out that he couldnt possibly have thought he is that good that noone hits him ever, with a blaster, im the only one that good and we part on relatively good terms. He seems a good sort (for an Imp), promising to forego the siren like call of the RG Int in future!

I suspect he chaffed out your torps as I had no problems on RGIs with missile hits so far.

It'll probably block missiles if the pilot was adept enough to pitch violently 90-270 degrees before the strike. I do that all the time in DS to charter the damage where I want it.

Nope, no countermeasures and he couldnt move, he had no engine. Plus, I watched the missile come in and hit the solar panel.

By looking at the size of the hitbox on that ship when grouped up, it appears that it doesn't stretch out to the sides of the solar panels, thus I would tend to say yeah, they would stop a missle, since it's impact would be on a portion of the ship outside the hitbox. Would be interesting if we could actually test this one some more.

I doubt that the solar panels block missiles. Why? You don't need line-of-sight to hit corvette components with missiles.

True about the corvette, but with him saying he saw the missle impact on the solar panel, that would lead me to say that player ships behave a little differently, since the missles will actually go partially through some parts of NPC ships, while apparently not going through parts of player ships. And, if that's the case, we would have an issue, since the panels are outside it's hitbox. People would just need to learn how to roll around properly, then they would be nearly invincible out there in the RGI. As is, it's current saving grace is the fact that missles make short work of it. Take that away and it goes from being a big issue to being something far worse.

You do have to get a little bit of an arc though - I've lost missiles that hit the structure of the vette before. All we need is to have someone else test this.

Personally, I hope it's true. It'll add more fuel to why this poor ship needs to be fixed quickly.

This is true, I have had it happen many times, my hit/miss ratio for RGIs with missiles is about 1/1

I think what happened was more a fluke due to my position relative to the RG squint and my proximity as well. If I was further away, as I was with my 3rd missile, it would probably have homed straight into the squints rear.

When I say it exploded "on" the panel, what i mean is, it arced around and into the panel, there was an explosion and no damag, so it may have flown through the panel but impacted on the side of the ball, who knows? However, it still didnt do any damage just like a blaster at that angle wouldnt either.

The Emperor was wise in his choice of personal escort fighter. What Emperor wants to be escorted by a cardboard TIE when he can be protected by a Teflon coated Interceptor?
