Hi all

With the help of a friend just picked up a JSF to try out. Semi liking it so far but something doesnt feel quite right so im thinking i havent got my loadout quite right.

a few questions if i may

1. whats this ships optimal speed to dogfight at?

2. currently im running the ship with the following:

lvl 7 re'd reward blaster. lvl 8 re'd reward blaster.

lvl 6 re'd reward engine

lvl 8 re'd reward shields.

low lvl low mass decent ish capacitor.

14 speed 6kish mass DI

lvl 1 armour re'd.

low mass decent gen reactor

lvl 2 re'd booster.

im thinking perhaps i should be sacrificing the shields for either a better engine or a better gun combo. but im really not sure. Please offer some advice as something doesnt quite feel right atm.

What is your primary use for this, PvE or PvP?

PvE, this is a nice set up. PvP, lower the guns and get a bigger engine. Maybe lower the shields too.

For PVP I would definitely try to get a better engine at the expense of firepower. 2 decentL6 RE duns will do the trick and should save you about 20k in mass. The shield could do you some good, that is why I recommend dropping the firepower first.

I have a similar set up, but with a pre-nerf DI and various other light components. Its let me get my mass down to 68190. I have a very good L7 shield (2300 f/b, 14.15 regen, 14600 mass) that lets me get it low, along with a pre-nerf reward engine and L7 and L8 gun setup.

But i'm working on a new L8 engine because the L6 isn't cutting it for me anymore.

Can't wait to get it all in there, its gonna be a dream.

pvp loadout i have on my jsf is

RE reactor lvl 1 mass 1097 gen rate 13417

RE engine lvl 8 mass 24056 76,72,73 p,y,r 1441 drain and 83 speed

mk 4 crafted shield

RE front armour 1962 hitpoints 10406 mass

RE rear armour 1152 hitpoints 3672 mass

RE cap lvl 4 3585 mass 42 charge and 1243 energy

RE DI 841 mass 21 speed

weapons are two lvl 6 RE 2700 damage and 10k mass blasters

an IR 2 launcher with 7 shot 2329-5691 damage missiles

sensor decoy launcher with 66-103 effective CM's

for pve the loadout changes to lvl 6 RE engine,mk3 front,mk4 rear armour, lvl 6 RE cap with a better recharge and a booster in place of IR launcher.

i have a QID with 98.6 speed as well as a couple of other decent lvl 8 engines sitting ready to RE to improve my pvp ship.the starmap armour is very nice when it is properly RE'd.i have seen lvl 7 armour with a mass around 7-8k which would be well matched with the starmap quest stuff (around 7k mass for 2000 hitpoints)

I barely ever PvP so It would be just for PvE.

So for PvE is that loadout good enough or should i drop to lvl 6 guns for a better engine, or drop the shields for a better engine?

Or both?

The best JSF loadout is to redeed it and fly your faction ship

I would use two RE'ed lvl7 blasters. You can get very nice lvl7 blasters if you spend the time and money looking for the right parts. you can get up to about 3200ish damage and about 15k ish mass on each blaster meaning that both blasters would only run you roughly 30k mass and still pump out 6400ish damage per shot. If you drop down to lvl6's your only looking at about 10k mass each making it about 20k mass total but it also drops your damage down to about 5600ish per shot. But that lvl8 blaster you have in there is sucking up a bit of mass which could be used elsewhere with very minor penalties typically since your lvl7 blasters can reach almost the same damage range but at about half the mass.

The Engine will depend on which reward engine you are referring too. I use the pre-nerf lvl6 reward engine and it works wonders in PvE and works pretty darn well in PvP most of the time as well, it also only takes up about 13k mass if I recall correctly. If you were leaning towards PvP you might want to consider a good lvl8 RE'ed engine which would run ya about 25k ish mass possibly lower and it will give you some very nice stats.

Personally I use the Reward lvl8 shields on my grevious fighter and it works very well for me there. it runs about 24k mass but has much higher protection typically than anything else near that mass. You could run roughly 1900 f/b with about 20k mass i think but it's not worth the 4k mass for the lost protection to me. And then on the rest fit in what you can, usually lvl4 or lvl6 capacitor works great, you could even drop to a lvl2 if needed since your only having to power 2 weapons. Get a lvl2 booster crafted and a low mass DI the prenerf ones aren't terribly expensive and give good speeds at almost no mass. For the armor just fit in what you can, if you can't fit in any armor I wouldn't worry about it too much, many people run around without any armor and it doesn't seem to make a huge impact, typically when something get's through your shields your dead anyways so armor really only comes in to play ocassionally. I had some nice 2k armor that only had a mass of roughly 9k mass, but it decayed so fast that it's not really worth investing a lot of time and effort into nice armor.

Swapping down to my other lvl 7 blaster leaves me with not enough free to put in my lvl 8 re'd reward engine

the current engine im using atm is a lvl 6 post nerf reward engine. 68-69 YPR and 82.2 speed. 8.9k mass.

my lvl 8 reward re'd is 23.9k mass 75YPR and 88.8 top speed.

Im totally leaning towards PvE i barely ever pvp. So is it worth going upto the level 8 and if so where do i find the mass? do i drop 1 lvl 7 to a level 6 blaster or do i drop the shields down?

LOL. He is a reb. The JSF IS his faction ship. Given to him by Lord Vader himself.

I wonder what the excuse if for the Alliance pilots we see in JSF?

well i dropped one of my blasters down to a lvl 6 re'd one i have that has great stats and is only mildly worse than my lvl 7's and also lost my armour.

this enabled me to fit my lvl 8 engine in. should be interesting to see how it performs tonight.

Um no JSF is not a faction ship. you may need to be imp to do quest but wait here's the kicker, Anyone can fly that has previously done the quest proven by freelancers and rebels flying it everywhere
