Thread: Tricks to searching for ship parts?

Are there any tricks that can be used to find ship parts on the vendor searches? Its taking me forever to find anything remotely useful.

Also, I've been stockpiling the ship parts I get in combat. I read in the pilot FAQ that pilots mostly use the parts shipwrights make. Should I even bother keeping all these parts, or should I just be selling them to the chassis vendor? They are starting to take up a lot of space.

there was a nice list compiled which listed the names of an item by level. like all the possible names of a level 1 blaster...all possible for level 2...etc.

personally, i just scroll all the way thru a page of 100 parts (i make sure i do galaxy vendor for 10,000,000 or less)and then go part by part in the examine window to check out the RE levels.

then go to the next page and do the same thing.

Check the bazaar galaxy wide every time you log on. Filter by the type of part (i.e. engine, guns, rector, etc) you are looking for. Newly listedparts will be at the bottom of the list if there is only one page of parts.

Instead of waiting for the stats to load on each part, go through the whole list quickly and then when you go through again the stats will already be loaded and you can just blaze through keeping an eye out for the RE # you want.

There is a list (linked off the FAQ I believe) on these forums that lists loot by the RE level. Find the names of the parts that have the level you want and do a galaxy widevendor search (the right most tab on the bazaar screen)on them regularly.

EDIT: That most pilots use crafted parts is a fairy tell shipwrights like to tell people You should keep most of your high end parts, even if they don't have great stats, because when you do get the one with great stats you will need the other ones to RE it. Most of the low level parts you can sell, as if you get a really exceptional low level part it will not be hard to gather a few more to RE it with. Just make sure you actually look at a part's stats before selling.

The general rule (with many exceptions of course) is that:

Looted <Crafted < Reverse Engineered < Pre-Nerf < Reverse Engineer Pre-Nerf

(As unfortunate as those last two are, its true)

Ok, I don't understand reengineering apparently. I thought that was a shipwright skill?

I don't know any shipwrights. I'm on Starsider server, and the best I can tell is that there are no active shipwrights left. I keep visiting the shops I find, and the vendors are usually nearly empty. If being a decent pilot requires me to be a shipwright, or to know one, then I'm kind of screwed, I guess.

Yeah, you need to know a shipwright. Reverse Engineering is the process of taking multiple pieces of loot and combining them into one. It takes the best stats out of all your components AND adds a bonus on based on the level of loot. To RE, you need the same amount of pieces as the level (i.e. You need 6 level 6 engines to make one RE'd level 6 engine). More detailed information is available in the pilot FAQ. I'm sure there are shipwrights on your server, you just need to keep an eye out for them.

There are several excellent SW's on starsider. Tomo is one of the best, although his vendor was empty last night. His shop is outside of cnet. there is also a good one on Dant called "GALAXY" that sells some RE'd components. Some others that are good are "BlastIon" and "OK". It is just a matter of looking.

I've been to Tomo's a couple times, the first time he had a few items, and last night he had hardly anything except a few low-end ship chassis. I was at the shop this weekend with "OK" items, and it didn't have much selection. I must have never run across BlastIon and Galaxy parts, because those names aren't familiar.

I like to stockpile and RE allot of my components. Sometimes you get a real rare gem of a component for doing it. Allways save and RE your weapons, reactors, capacitorsand droid interfaces, the rest get player made.

The sticky link at the top of the pilot boards has been a real boon for searching the bazaar term for the right stuff.

Woops it's not sticky

Don't rule out custom jobs. If you have a part that you need check out the crafter name on other parts you have and send them and email or a tell. Most SW's, in my experience, prefer to do custom work rather than filling a vendor.

BTW- Tomo will have more parts on his vendor soon. I think he is preping for a move.

Also RE your engines. If you ever plan on doing any PvP, crafted ones won't turn to save your life. There are some really high speed reward engines out there that you can RE with loot that has good YPR and mass.

The only crafted things I use are shields, boosters, missiles, and countermeasures (and the last two can't be looted anyway).

Hmm.....I have a shop just 516m outside Mining Outpost, Dantooine on Starsider. Have 11 vendors with 5 of them all JTL related. Its called GALAXY INDUSTRIES MALL. I keep one vendor strictly for RE which is hard to keep stocked since things sell so fast but I will be doing more REover the next several days of caps, reactors, shields, armorand guns. Please don't just sell your loot to the Chassis dealer unless you are sure it is not something that will be useful to you later for RE. As to selling low level parts please remember also that some of the most sought after RE components are low level reactors and caps due to their low mass. I would hang on to any level 2-4-6 caps with decent stats and any low level reactors that have energy of 11K - 12k or higher. Feel free to send a tell in game to Merry or Celestial if you have any questions about what to keep or how RE works. Stop by the shop to browse or let me know if you're looking for anything specific. I'm on the game every day usually in the evenings.

Thanks for all the helpful information.

I just have one other question:
I keep seeing people say things like "make sure and RE all your ship parts." How do I go about doing that? I don't recall ever having seen a reverse engineer choice on my radial dial when I'm looking at my ship parts. Do I need a special kit for that? I had thought that was a shipwright skill.
