I read in the mostrecent stratics HOC that the Y-8 may be getting an upgrade to have 2 more turrets...Mini capitol ship? (The quest is currently bugged for me so its rather frustrating)

Even with 2 more front fireing guns, like the ones they said they would be adding, it will still be useless...

It turns and moves way to slow to have any use for fixed guns, and the range and speed of the asteroid chunks make it almost useless to have a gunner shooting at them.

They basicaly took the mining from EVE-Online, and tried to make it more "Exciting", which removed all effeicency from mining in space at the same time.

Y-8 needs to be able to mine directly from the large stationary asteroids, and use its turrets for defence only. Only way it will see much use... Ill be deedingmy y8again soon, to make room for a mining x-wing. Y8 is currently useless.

My single mining experience with the Y-8 was less than productive.

The asteroids travel too fast for any efficient gathering, and the Pilot's cannon is basically usless. The range of motion on the Lower/Rear cannon is abyssmal.

Maybe a Y-8 Class Tractor beam that could acutally suck Medium asteroid chunks into the cargo hold. Or something akin to a Cone fire. Otherwise, its just another decoration.

I hooked up my Krayt for mining instead. Now if we could only get those Asteroid stats fixed, and I could have a cargo hold that can take more than 1535.

It's my belief that the Y-8 is nothing more than a test-bed for capital ships in-game. The bridge-like atmosphere of the "cockpit" - as well as the ship's massive size - would seem to indicate that the devs intend to use the Y-8 for Cap. Ship research.

I'm still holding out hope on the Y-8. I've put a couple of high maneuverability engines on it and it turns fine for me at mining speeds. I just need to get my Mining Laser to actually do some damage to asteroids in the pilot hardpoint, and I'm good to go.

If that thing gets two more hardpoints, I'm slapping a buncha experimental blasters on it, some 3000 point Enhanced Type V armor, a 2400 point Type V enhanced shield and my 100 speed 70 YP/58R engine on it and you'll never get me out of the Kessel system.

I'm with you...i am holding out hope that what i read will come true...4 guns, hmm...and it does sound like research for capital ships...i am looking forward to this next expansion thou i am not happy with the idea that they will do a new "ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE" expansion like they did for the total experience pack. come on, stop with the bundles or let us vet players get the expansion for half the price or give it free to us.

Brekkee -

*Reek* The Y8 mining ship is simply not effective at all as a mining vessel. Are there any plans to improve it?
Darth_Platypus - Oh yes, there are plans to improve it!
Darth_Platypus - I think you'll agree that two more turret emplacements on the front of the ship will make it a more formidable mining vessel...

now i am not sure if i want to mine with this but i would love to see how it would do as a fighting ship...with 5 mil mass...who cares about it moves...get the best sheilds, armor, capasitor, and 5 maxed guns and lets see how gets close.

i would get waxed but it would be scary.

on second thought...2 turrets should not be on the front...put them on the sides with a full 360 degree rotation.

I am proof posative the Y-8 works perfectly as an efficient mineing vessle. I am able to fill a 5k cargo hold in 20-40 minutes. If you want to see first hand a Y-8 at work...

Create a character on Bria and look for Azzixx between 6:00pm-11:30pm EST. I will be more than happy to give you a wild ride abord the 'Bloated Ego'.

I have had 3 passangers that were able to effectively use the rear fire turret. It still baffles me how.

instead of just saying "it works fine!" you could explain what you're doing differently to the majority of the people who've tried mining in it...

Roger....

Pre requisits:

  • 2 accounts 2 computers (someone has to be in the top turret at all times, I can't imagine an actual player wanting to do this)

Equip your Y-8 like this:

  • Top turret is the tractor beem

  • fixed forward gun is your Y-8 elite mineing laser

  • rear mounted wapon you can do with as you please, its mostly useless

  • droid progrms: Reactor OL4, Cap OL4, Engine OL 3, Weapon OL 3, Shield shunt 4

  • Cargo hold, bigger is better

When you launch:

  • 2nd account get in 1 of the 2 opperations chair and run the 4 overloads.

  • after over loads are complete move the 2nd account to the upper turret

  • Toggle the Tractor beem on with the 2nd account (doing it from the pilot seat will only turn on an imaginary tractor beem that does nothing)

  • While looking in first person view pilots chair adjust the tractor beem so that half of the beem runs down the middle-left strutt in the forward window. This approxamatly intersects your reticle's cross hair at 50m-150m from target rock.

  • Once the beem is aimed the pilot needs to zoom out to external view. You cant see jack from the interior view.

  • use the laser on the big rock to break of a chunk

  • Target the chunk and match its speed.

  • Optimal distance to target is 50m-150m. if it's farther than 180m, just turn around and break off another chunk. dont bother chaceing anything.

  • Aim the beem at the center of rotation, Put the white flashlight on the green lead indicator.

  • Tap the chunk with the laser and SLURP 90-100% of the chunk instanly pops in your hold. Most of the time I do not bother picking up the small potatos the splatter around. but if you must you will be at the same speed as the little rocks for EZ pickup with the beem.

If I were to do this in a fighter, I would use auto follow instead of matching target speed. A fighter is better able to adjust speed than the Y-8 and autofollow puts you in the most optomal distance and aimed at the center of rotation.

I like the Bwing because I am do mine laser tractor and still have room for weapons to defend my self... with my alt I have a krayt.

Tried it with B-wing... pain the but! Darn things speed adjustments and YPR are so bad, hard to chase.

Using a Firespray now mostly, but the X would probably be the best bet for rebels.
