Thread: This may not be StarWars but......

And for the record, I'm NOT a jedi or trying to get force powers in space. There is one piece of technology that some other sci-fi shows have used that I wish was also in starwars.Cloaking technology.Make a cloaking device be rare loot drops, or crafted, I don't care.Make it heavy, so offense will have to suffer a bit to use it. Mabe high energy drain as well. Now of course as with other shows I won't name for fear of this thread getting deleted, you cannot fire when cloaked. To make this work in game, the cleak can drain from the capacitor. So when that drains, you uncloak, and have to wait for a little cap power to regen before you can actually attack which will limit some of the griefing this could cause. This could be implemented purly for PVE by letting players see through it, and not letting it be enabled in DS. Or use it for PVP as a defensive mechanism to get away from an ownage. Now I know alot are gonna say "this is just some jedi looking for a way to get force powers in space" but i digress, i am not a jedi or plan to be one. and this would be available to all players........I know this will probably never happen, but I think it has potential for fun
Needa: Track them they may come around for a second pass!
Tech: Admiral Needa the ship no longer appears on our screen.
Needa: Impossible! No ship that small has a cloaking device.

It would be purly defensive.
ie you are say doing the kessel vette, and you are getting hurt bad, but the kicker is, you've already used IFF on this group, so It won't work. You hit your cloak and dissapear from their sensors. fly off to a good distance before it wears off, or set your hiperdrive to go get repairs.
I know it does not have alot of different functions, but im trying to stress the 'just for fun' part of this idea.
Or to make it more usefull, make some missions from space stations give you a mission where you need to sneak up on a ship and intercept a transmission or something. And make the target so uber that if your cloak ran out of power or you forgot to equip it, insta-death.
The missions would be available to all, after you did annother quest to get the cloaking device, or better yet, unlocks a slot in the ship to equip one, but you still need to get one crafted.
id love the idea, but it isn't logically possible, becasue if a yt-1300 is too small for a cloaking device, then every ship except mabey the y-8 is too small as well
however this is soe, where logic makes no sense......so who knows, if a tie can have hyperdrive then we can have cloaking devices

exactly, it seems SOE uses canon to a point, then throws it all out the window in other parts. So, i do think it is feasable. Or perhaps it can be limited for use in POB ships onle. The only problem with that is then it is not available to every one.
Thus, when they drop their cloak, not only is their capacitor near empty, but they have no protection. That right there is turning it into a solely defensive system. Otherwise, with a lot of the capacitor recharge rates, it wouldn't be smart to do. I know in my Oppressor, the capacitor recharges enough to fire off 2 full volleys within about half a second, or less. So I could sneak in right behind some player, drop my cloak and before he could target me, he'd be toast. Having it drop your shields would still allow that, but then you would be sitting there completely vulnerable (since you would have no power to shunt) for anyone else to come pick off.
That all being said, I still think it wouldn't be a smart idea for them to implement. For one reason: 90% of the new stuff they have added has severely thrown the balance out the window. The only way I could see them doing it right would be to take months to implement. For SOE, that's next to impossible, especially for something that they'd see as small. Look at the CU. That was a major revamp and it was in dev for what...a couple months *max*.

I was just watching The Empire Strikes back.
Cloaking devices do exist in Star Wars but you need a big ship to use one. Maybe a VSD(Victory Star Destory)or a ISD(Imperial Star Destory)could have one. I Think a SSD(Super Star Destoryer)would be too big however(That mohters like 10KM in length)
I still want the ability to dumb fire missles like in XvT and Xwing Alliance

well when you discuss cloaking i cant really add to anything that is from starwars as the movies never say much about them. so ill use my vast knowledge of startrek cloaking, a cloaking device not only hides you from sensors but also hides you visually(ie cant just be seen out a window and tracked the ole fashioned way). However when cloaking and cloaked your shields are down and your weapons dont work as all power is being diverted to the warp drive(for SWG it would be Hyperdrive) and to the cloak. so in theory with a big gun and good timing you could hit the persons reactor as they cloaked as shields would be down.
i do no know if Starwars cloaking fuctions the same as startrek in the whole making you invisible part. id imagine it does since a cloak in most other scifi does render you invisible and undectable to most sensors.
There we go.....
also, to make it more balanced(if such a thing actually exists) you cannot jump while cloaked, like in SG1 when the ship would usually cloak after it jumps into a system.
The way this could work, is when you get that 5 sec timer to jump, your cloak will go down. giving someone a chance at you as you jump....and I know you can take damage with this, as I hit a gunboat once just as the timer started, and I was almost dead when I droped from lightspeed.
