Thread: Nebulas and Space Lightning: Necessary or cosmetic?
Theoretically in those areas an Imperial could use nebula blast on you.
In practice, no one ever does.

I'm gonna have to read up again on that one and try it sometime. just to see what happens. I'll prolly end up blowing my own guns off or something.
Actually, the lightning does damage you if you so happen to be in the exact place it first hits. I've had it happen a couple of times.
As to it's purpose..... nebula's are really in space, makes it look more realistic IMO. The lightning isn't really realistic, but I like it just because it looks cool. Only a select few Nebula's in the game cause me any lag, and I have density and all other settings to max.

Yes nebulae are in space, they cover light years and stars are born out of them. They do not exist in low orbit near planetary bodies to be flown through in a few seconds. These dinky clouds aren't realistic at all in that respect.

I'll see your QFE and raise you a +1
And I do find the nebulae and the storms to add nice ambiance. I just find it to be a bad trade-in for the lag they cause me. One of these days I'll have my cake and eat it too. Then I'll get fat. And eat lots of Subway to lose weight, and star in a long series of crappy for commercials for them.
Nebulas are really in psace, but they're not as common in space as clouds are common to a stormy day in an atmospheric environment. There's TOO MANY nebulas. There could be a few here and there...
