You have a bugged gun that isnt visible (the one that appears in 2 spots) put that on your wings. This will give you 3 guns worth of fire coming from the 2 center positions, above and below your cockpit. Even without taking advantage of the bugged gun, the krayt, like any ship takes time to get used to. Once you learn to aim in it, you will love it.

The turret is far from useless by the way. With a good gunner, its more wonderful added damage, and great rearward defense if you ever have to run. Also makes gunboats stupid easy. Take a friend up and have fun with it.

Krayts also make great mining ships. Laser in the center slot, tractor on the wingtips, nice big cargo hold, et voila!

The Krayt is an awesome ship. I really don't think you can find another ship that can pack as much power with the maneuverability of the Krayt. Sure you have 3 weapons on the X-wing aswell, but you have more mass on the krayt allowing you to put better guns. I never carry a gunner unless someone wants some free and quick pilot exp. With my krayt nothing in space lasts more than 5 seconds unless it is a damn A-wing that you have to chase down

The only problem with the krayt is that it is huge which makes it an easy target specially against the freedom station/star destroyer and corvettes. Never tried the freedom station on mine but I am sure it is pretty much suicide. I use smaller ships for that. Corvettes are doable but you have to be careful.... If you make a little mistake the corvette will have a huge target that will be hard to miss. I just think that for it's size and mass it should be able to have 2 missile hardpoints instead of just one.

Since I see a forum full of posts praising this ship, I can only assume that I am doing something wrong. What am I missing? I took the gun out of the turret and have a gun in all the other slots. They are all decent looted guns so its not like I am cramming trash in it. Gun 1 apears to fire from overhead and the wing slots, gun 3 fires from directly overhead, and gun four fires from the wing slots only. With the fire coming out of the overhead position only its a bit of a...challenge to actually hit my target. Any advice?

umm.. practice or get better guns. Krayt is god, the firing patter is wide, but with the width of the shots you can actually smoke 2 targets at once if you know what you are doing.

Yeah once you learn how to shoot with a Krayt, they can tear things up. One pointer to keep in mind: when trying to get more accurate with the wing guns (they have a wide firing arc), try to lead your target from the side. It will increase your chances if hitting with those guns.

But this is the best all-around ship I've flown as a privateer. Great for most missions and great for mining (you can put a tractor beam in that turret and fire it w/o having someone in there!).

I dont know what I'd do w/o my Krayt... in PvE. PvP, something that big gets eaten, but if you catch them incoming soon enough, you'll likely disable one ofthem as they distroy you. (ok, well, my sucky pilot skills and slow comp wil! ). Go black on black if you think you'll be PvPing in it... it doesnt help much, but a distracting florescent red/yellow bumble bees the size of a medium generic house tend to get shot at early.

The wing guns are most usefull for catching an attempt by the opponent to jink around your gunfire. I've put lvl 8 quads in the wings to give it a nice look and a decent med-dmg (3200) to catch the occational stray. The center is where you want to pack that Borstel (3800) blaster and a 4k+ dmg lvl 10 when you dial in the lightest reactor you can w/ lvl 3 overcharge.

With a prenerf loot (not reward!) 92 speed lvl 6 motor, and lvl 3 engine overload, I push a respectable 1102 unboosted, and spin round faster than most pilots expect. The hardest thing I had to get used to was the very poor deceleration on these birds. It tends to oversteer and bounce around a turning target, but keep pupming out bolts and they cross the beams eventually.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I definitely plan to practice with it more, since I can cram everything including the kitchen sink in it. The problem I am having isn't with the wide firing pattern, it is with the very dense firing pattern. The shot patterns look like this

II

II

I I

I III

whereas with the Rix it looked like this

I I

I I

I I

And the Vaksai looks like this

I I

I I

I hope that made sense. The guns on the Krayt are all firing out of the very center just below the turret with the exception of 1 gun (#4) is this normal or do I have a bugged Krayt/gun?

Thanks again!

For the most part the Krayt imho is a gunship. It packs a ton of firepower and anything that gets in front of it heh well dies. It's great for taking a friend up to get some XP, or for blasting Tier 5 fighters. However it's got it's downers as well, even with a nice big fast engine I found it's still hard to line up on target at times. I try when I'm flying it vs other fighters to keep the Engines around 75%, any faster and yes you can outrun most ships but turning becomes a prob. Slower and you'll turn a little too fast imho... Also it's size plays a big part, not only in pvp but pve. NPC Ships can hit your big heavy Krayt easy, however vs smaller ships like the Tie Fighter, ETA-2, Z-95, Scyk, Vaksai and A-Wing the NPC Ships can miss alot more.

Yes, guns #1 and #3 fire from the center nose. One from the bottom and one from the top (though they can look like they come out of the same spot.

The usefullness of the turret is totally based on the person manning it!

Some mentioned this this thread that they use the tractor beam in the turret but can operate it solo, can you expand on that?

And lastly, I have a question of my own about the Krayt, about weapons in the turrets. I've not been in the turret position on a Krayt but have been on a Y-8 and a YT-1300 and it seems that there is a problem with using weapons that fire their enery in a round ball. I've never had a problem using a red or green blaster in a turret but when I put an ion cannon (I think it was) everytime I fired the screen would flash brightly and I could no longer see thru the brightness. Same thing happened with I put the tractor beam on a turret, when firing it the flash of the weapon made it impossible to see anything.

I would definately want my gunner to not have these troubles so am wondering what weapons make the best turret guns?

Thanks!

PS- Love my Krayt! When I'm flying it solo I move the turret gun to the wings, but typically I can only fit 3 advanced weapons on the thing at a time!
