Live from Leipzig, SOE has just announced its next expansion for SWG: Trials of Obi-Wan.

...

It will introduce Mustafar, a mining planet where the duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin happened.

Most of its 50 new quests will revolve around Obi-Wan, living as an NPC on the planet, and you'll need to help him find his way. You'll to find your way too as every quest will ask you to make choices, leading you to the dark or light side of the force. It will impact directly on your standing with Obi-Wan.

Those quest will also talk about the history of Mustafar, which was first seen on the movie but which has not been very used in the Star Wars universe.

LucasArts and SOE also announce that we'll see NPCs from other Star Wars games in this expansion. The speaker was kinda mysterious about it, but some characters from the old world (?) could make a new apparition as a new "shape" [maybe a ghost?]

Misc informations:

- many new instanced areas on the planet ("who have really good reasons to be instanced")

- Mustafar will be totally aimed towards high level players (but you will be able to bring your friends with the sidekick system)

- no new space zone

This add-on will be released along with the DVD of Episode 3... that means November 1st.

No retail box, only available through download..

Someone should tell SOE that Obi-wan is kind of dead right now.

We're expecting it to be the Friday Feature. That was just the first official announcement we found.

Is it just me...or does noone actually give a damn about Mustafar? If it is a new expansion, well lets say a big welcome to more bugs, broken quests and forum heartache.

now Hoth opens the gates to a PvP world and space zone with ISD's and asteroids seemed like it would be a better choice and can also move the story arc of the movies along more.

Unless the purchase rewards are absolutely amazing, this will be the first expansion to an MMO that I have ever passed up while I was playing the game. My main character is CL 54, being both a Carbineer and a Shipwright, so high level content doesn't do much for me. I couldn't give a rat's @$$ about Mustafar, and Obi-wan is supposed to be dead. Given that it's all about Obi-wan, the whole stupid expansion screams "JEDI" to me, so that's another shot against it. Finally, while having no new space zone doesn't actually mean no new space content, I find the chances of us getting much more content to be low at best. All in all, probably not worth the money.

sounds like a absolute crap idea for a new expansion pack.

Probably another rushed bugfest just like RotW. The idea of shipping it for free with the DVD to get some more subscribers is good, we could use some fresh blood on the servers.

I think it's genuine, player breakfast was at a gameshow in leipzig today. If it's a hoax, it's pretty well thought out.

They aren't shipping it with the DVD, it's just being released at the same time. Kind of like how RotW was done at the same time as RotS was in theatres.

I mean, sure I'll see what the fuss is about when/IF SOE put this up as a Friday feature or somthing, but even as a concept, well it just sounds like a big kick in the face to anyone who doesn't want anything more to do with Jedi. It says to me "Hey, play with the Jedi otherwise..your content ends.....HERE". Hell...I'd personally subscirbe to this game for life if they just fixed some of the unfixed-since-launch bugs before they released or even mentioned releasing somthing new.
