Thread: Y-8 3 : ISD nil

Excerpt from Captains Log: Sencom Shiro, JMC Red-Dwarf, Y-8 class mining ship.

To be honest - I expected us to die quickly, but we were lucky - someone had already been to deep space - the ISD'sbridge was only on 2%. All we had to do was get an angle and hit it.

Many guns opened up on us as we got in range, but the few shots we needed landed ok, some minor shield damage so we retreated.

A new ISD hyperspaced in and we headed to the shield generators opening up on them with 4 newly acquired 'Null Bolt' blasters (the 5th is rear facing and was generally unmanned). We breezed through the shields but some enemy fighters had launched and were swarming around us like bees stinging us where they could.

We headed clear of the ISD's guns and took down a few of the bombers before just boosting away and the short-sighted pilots lost us (I guess 20:20 isn't a requirement of the Imperial academy).

After charging our shields we headed back and took out the engines and swung round to get a clean angle on the reactor. Coming in at half power the reactor blew and we angled up to knock out the bridge on the first run. The empire lost another ISD and we headed clear to recharge and check our damage. Nothing had got through the armour, but it had taken a few scratches on the front.

On the third ISD the fight went like the second, except after the reactor we headed clear and moved ahead of the ISD for a full frontal assault. The odds may be enough to scare C-3PO but I thought we could do it after surviving two side assaults.

As we got in close I hit the booster well aware of what would happen....we soared in towards the bridge as the booster expired and the controls overloaded...then suddenly we stopped...DEAD.

In a perfect firing position we blasted the bridge somewhere into next week, three ISD's dead.

We also took on a gunboat and decimator who were patrolling nearby which went down pretty quick, although the fighter escort again annoyed us so we pulled back, and headed for Theed.

A job well done, many imperials died...the JMCRed-Dwarf victorious!!!

End Log.

Thanks to Locin, ObboB and Erut for manning the turrets and having fun with me. The Y-8 is a formidable PvE machine now, although PvP it is toast (far too easy to hit even with shields and armour combined over 15k you only need about 20 direct hits to send it to oblivion)

We had a blast up there, and I thought it might be fun to share with you all the battle.

Sounds like it was a blast Captain - it is a pity we lost some Destroyers... but we will just build more!

Hehe, I wish I was there when you flew to deep space. But I had enough fun while mining (still flashing in the eyes though).

I was one of the aforementioned turret gunners.

For the runs on the Star Destroyer, I was in one of the two new forward turret positions. I had a pretty good angle of fire on all the subcomponents, just slightly off centre from directly forwards. But aiming forward on these turrets is the same as aiming directly up on existing turrets, you have to spin it around 180 degrees to go from left to right. So you have to get used to it a bit.

Also, as you can’t see anything of the ship itself when aiming forward it gets a bit disorientating when you start moving the turret and the ship starts turning. At least on other turrets when aiming forwards you have a bit of the ship there for a frame of reference to position yourself. Stars start flying every which way and it takes a second or two to figure out if you are still more or less pointing forwards.

Going after large targets can be pretty deadly in that thing with four of those huge guns pointing forwards. It’s just a pity you have to get so close. A doubling of the range would be nice.

Being in the middle of a swarm of fighters is another story!
I think I hit something... I think

Going after the gunboat and Decimator I got into the top turret. When we started attacking them they tended to be just below my arc of fire most of the time. So with just the pilot and one forward turret doing most of the damage, and an occasionally hit from the top turret, we were probably a lot slower than we could have been if there was someone in the second forward turret as well.

But all good fun .

Glzmo was a great visionary. Perhaps SOE should have listened to him instead of rebuilding everything all the time.

Are those POB stats the new uber ones, or is that still to go in on Publish 24?? Also anyone have any idea what is going to happen to the current Y-8 with 3 weapons? The next publish is to add 2 additional turrets to the Y-8, so will they update the current ship or just leave us behind?

Those are publish 24 components.

The Y-8 is from before the bug and the extra turrets were added on when I logged on.

Ah...this was the test center Y-8...correct? Sorry if I was a little confused. The question I am really curious about is where do you access the two new turrets now? The top was going up in the turbolift, the rear one was from the bottom turbolift. Where do you get in for the two new ones?

Also a off topic question, been away for a while: where is the option to rate or give stars to a post??? Don't see the options here anymore

The front turrets are accessed from lower ladder (it has radial options for lower turret (the old one) and front turret 1 and front turret 2)

The star system was removed a fair while ago.
