Thread: A question about a wierd weapon.

I have a looted disruptor (it's name starts with a B)that does 3600+ max dmg (.620 to shields, .630 to armor)and uses 14. somthing energy per shot. So I can effectively fire without stopping since my recharge is 36.+ without overload 3.The only problem is this blasted thing has more than 33K mass. I have a screen shot but it is on my home PC.

On to the question:

Is it possible to get a crafted weapon with less mass, compareable damage, and a similarenergy per shot? I know I should ask in the Shipwright forum, but as pilots I figured you would have more experience with such weapons.

I currently have this loaded on my Kimogila (the kimoagogo). I've had to drop down to a low output engine and I can only load one other blaster that uses twice the energy and does only 800 odd maximum damage.

I crafted something similar for a guild-member the other day... but the mass was close. In order to get the dmg that high, it had to be a Mk5 blaster with a max dmg sub-component. The mass was somewhere in the 35k range. There is no way to get a Mk4 weapon that high, even though the mass would be about 1/2. Weapons like that a best saved for your master level ships when you can afford to carry that kind of weight around.

Good luck.

Is this your weapon?

Borstel Disruptor
Cert Lvl: 8
Armor: 700.9/700.9
Hitpoints: 700.9/700.9
Drain: 2799.8
Mass: 38221.7
Damage: 2387.6-3691.9
Vs. Shields: 0.625
Vs. Armor: 0.625
Energy/Shot: 14.1
Refire: 0.425
RE Lvl: 8

This is a reward gun. A crafted experimental blaster (level 9) with quickshot upgrade can have a MUCH higher refire rate (0.257 or so), but it will have double the energy/shot. It will also weigh 36500 or so mass.

The crafted gun will have a higher damage-per-second but has a huge energy per shot.

RE the Borstel with 7 other level 8 guns and it will be a lot better. Go for <25k mass and a much lower reactor energy drain. You should be able to get the refire rate down to 0.40 too. It's still much slower than the experimental, but the higher vs. shields/armor give it a higher DPS.

Thats it...hmm I didn't know it was a reward, I thought I looted it on a duty mission for my Tier 4 trainer.

as to Reverse Engineering it...Do i have to use weapons of the exact make and model? or can it be other weapons of equal RE level? I have a Master SW but I never RE'd much (thus far I've used onlyone component thingy that you RE with)

The weapon you talk abotu is the "Borstel Disruptor".
You didn't loot it, its the reward for one of the 4th tier missions.

I don't think you can get a weapon crafted with similar stats. You can reach the damage on a Mark 5 gun (level 9), but it will only have 0.5 against shield/armor and that means its about 20% less damage int he end.
Also you won't be able to really get the energy/shot below 25 or so on crafted guns (perhaps a bit lower, but certainly nowhere even near 14)

Once you get good other level 8 guns, mainly with low mass, low reactor use and high eff shield/armor (can go up to 0.7 i think on Level 8, perhaps even higher), and (IMPORTANT!) with a low refire rate (the Borstel is slow) you should RE it.
But really don't just use the first 7 guns you find, but choose carefully, there are a lot of crap guns around, and the borstel is unrivaled in min/max damage and energy/shot, it would be a shame to waste it on an RE with crap loot.

For grinding, i'd prever 3 level 7 crafted blasters (about 14k mass each - get some with a speed upgrade, should have 0.28 or so at most) and use Capacitor Overload 3 and Weapon Overload 3, thats better than using the borstel and 2 low level guns.
Also the level 6 reward engine is about 14k mass I think, should fit in - hope you didn't sell it to the chassis dealer.

And since you're on Tier 4 already, you should get a Rhixyrk, 190k mass, 3 guns and handles almost like a Kimo - you can fit the borstel and 2 level 7 guns in there easily. Or wait a bit longer and make master and get the Krayt.

You can use any level 8 gun that has a "Reverse Engineering Level" of 8. Thats about every level 8 gun, but there might be some around that have higher/lower RE-levels.
Model etc doesn't matter. Also not if it says blaster, disruptor, ion cannon, or whatever, all works.

But as i said in my other post: don't just use the 7 first level 8 guns you find, choose carefully, compare stats. The Borstel is slow, you should find at least a gun with 4.0 or even 3.8 refire rate (not really seen faster ones, though they might exist).
Also the eff is nice compared to crafted but not really great for a level 8 looted gun. I'm not sure if you can really reach the 0.7 i mentioned, I just checked my levle 8 guns and the best are around 0.65 (I'm sure that 0.7 exist, but they might be quite rare).
Reactor drain and Mass you can definitely cut down, i'd say to at least 30k mass and 2k energy drain perhaps even lower.
Armor, HPs, Damage and energy/shot you can use from the Borstel won't find anything lower than that I think.

Thanks for the info, again , I have a house full, and I mean to the brim,of space loot and about 300 more on a vendor. It looks like I might have a looooong night ahead of me trying to sift through all that for some of the other lvl 8 loot that I have. Still have that reward engine, it currently resides in my Dune Lizard mining rig. I vary rarely sell my loot.

Pack Rat for teh win

---edit---

I have enough lvl 10 driod interfaces to either make a quick buck by selling them, or I can RE it to make a very impressive interface. One of them has a speed of 14.8. I've been holding on to that one since lvl 2's dropped uber loot (that was looted back when JtL was first launched)

Have fun And read the RE guides on the Shipwright forum if you need some general info how REing works.

Also, 14.8 is not that great for a level 10 DI, most Level 8 I see have 13.x and Level 10 can be even under 10 (lower is better for DIs ).
Also I think Level 10 DI for a fighter is a waste of mass, better use some Level 6 or 7 or so with a 10th of mass and 16 or 17 speed.

I have my Borstel Disruptor in the pilot controlled forward-firing slot of my ARC-170. With Weapon Overcharge droid programs, it more than makes up for their being only one pilot-controlled gun on the ARC.

I agree with your statement of better speeds being out there....but when is the last time you looted them from atier two?

If you look again, you will find that the cert lvl is 10 and the RE lvl is probably 1-3. When you RE it, make sure you don't put that one in the tool first.

Unless, of course, you aren't going to want the final product, but do want the chance at a Kuat fragment. Then you *should* turn it into an L10 DI to get more money from selling it to the chassis dealer.
