Thread: Group xp?

I played for a time after the game went live about 2 years ago. My game partner and I have returned to take a look at all the changes that have occured. My partner wants to be a pilot and that is great. I do not want to be a pilot. Pilott appears to be a solo kind of role, at least until you get to ships that have room for more than one person. My questions are: 1) At what point will he have access to ships that hold hold two or more? 2) If I ride along as gunner, will I get combat or any sort of experience? In otherwords, is there any group experience for non pilots or are pilots grouped only with other pilots?

I think it would be a great deal of fun to be able to fly and shoot things, but being a pilot is not my kind of thing.

I think Piloting is more fun with more than one person. When you are able to aquire a ship to accomodate more than one person depends on your Facion.

Rebels get the Pilot/Turret Y-Wing at Tier 1. Imperials get the Aggressor at Tier 4. Freelancers get the Krayt at Master Pilot. Also at Ace/Master, each Faction gets a POB (Portalized Object, Player-on-Board, 'walk around in') ship that has crew locations for four, and can have up to twenty on board. In addition to those is the Y-8, a massive POB ship available through RotW missions.

Piloting is not everyone's thing, understandably. It is, however, a much more enjoyable group activity than solo one, whether that means multi-player ships or multiple single player ones.

Hope that helps.

Pilot is not simply a matter of xp. There are missions that need to be completed, and many of them require you to be in the pilot's seat. No sleepytime AFK grind to master for you, sorry. As for xps:

anyone who damages a ship more than 5% or so gets full xps for the ship. theoretically 20 people could get full xps for a ship. IF they were all in separate ships. 100 xp ship means 100xp for every ship who hits it.

2seaters and MP ships split the xps for a ship amongst the entire group in that ship. same 100xp ship will mean 50xp each for a 2 seater crew.

Multiperson ships: Rebel Ywing (tier1), TIE Aggressor (tier4), quested ARC170 (tier4), Freelance Krayt (master). Rebel Nova, Imperial Decimator, and YT1300 can have up to a crew of 8 plus 22 invitees, I do not think invitees get xps. All 3 of those are Master ships.

Thank you both, very helpful!! One further question, my playing partner says he is getting starship combat credit for kills. So I assume that , if I were in the ship, I would get the same. Does this go into the same combat xp pool as it would on the ground? If not, what would the passengers apply it to?

I really wish that was the case, however space is completely seperated from the ground combat. (Except i have intimidate on my toolbar in space, it's useless but cool )

Huh? You get starship xp...it's a seperate xp type.

Also, with the new CU rules on xp kills, I don't understand why MP ships split the xp...that's even LESS insentive to use them...like we needed more reasons to avoid them.

The Pilot and the crew split the experience, which you are correct in calling Starship Combat Experience. That is the type of experience that is spent when experience is needed to learn a new Piloting skill box. Since everyone on board a multi-person ship must have JtL as a minimum, everyone on board can have a pool of Starship Combat Exp. If you have finished your path and are an 'Ace' or 'Master,' then you receive Prestige instead of S.C. Exp.

Ok, thanks again! I understand the separate combat pools. Assuming the passengers are not training as pilots themselves, is there some other skill that this xp can be applied to? I am assuming not, as I don't see another starship based skill, like gunner, but still wondering. Why would a pilot want to get only 50% say, because they have a passenger? What is the incentive then to group play?

Hopefully, that made sense.

Pilot skills require no skill points, so there is typically no reason for someone with JtL to *not* be a member of one Pilot organization or another. If you aren't looking to 'pick sides' in the GCW, go CorSec and shoot at everyone. Starship Combat Experience, the only type of Exp earned in space until you complete your Pilot training, is only used to learn Pilot skills.

As to why fly in multi-player ships, that's a bit harder to explain on a forum. I do it because it is typically so much fun that the lower amount of Exp is not a deciding factor. Honestly, the memorable parts of Pilot Training are the story-driven missions that you chart your progress with, not typically the amount of Exp until your next skill (though the first time you go through Tier 4 you might call me a liar).

Forgive my ignorance, when you say that you need jtl, are you talking the expansion? That I have. Or is it something else?

Thanks again to all of you, you've been a great help!!

JtL=Jump to Lightspeed.
RotW=Rage of the Wookiees

JtL is the basis of space combat, and you can not enter space without it installed (Piloting, using a Turret, or just hanging out on a YT-1300). RotW is additional content for both JtL and the ground game.

The reason 2 seater and MP ships split the xp is actually simple. So that people who load someone into the backseat and let them AFK are not rewarded. It's a disincentive to use MP ships for group xp grinding, but it promotes their intended purpose, group play for fun.

except that I can never get gunners because no one wants less xp.
