to use for mining. atm, i use my spare krayt with fast speed, low armor and shields, but mark 3 lasers and the quest reward tractor beam.with a good gun incase any bandits hit me up.

IMO, the B-22 is one of the best mining ships. Placing the tractor beam on the outside gives it a nice spread to pull in those chunks. Not to mention it is hyper-maneuverable, so snapping around to face a new chunk isn't a problem.

A lot of people say you really need a 3 gun ship to mine, with one gun for the bandits. Personally, I've never had a problem with them, though I never mine diamonds, so only ever get tier 4 at the most. And a nice crafted Mk.III Mining laser will do some nice damage to those, especially with the B-22 being able to stay behind them.

The other freelance option would be the Rihx. It's a bit quicker turning then the krayt, with no real loss of mass. That extra 20k difference is used up by the turret gun, imo.

so its the belb ship then. thx guys.

oh one more thing, havent played with the belb much . which weapon slot does the tractor beam go in. i used it on my krayt, but it got, lets shall we say "interesting"

Any 3-gun ship immediately has my vote, though 2-guns is doable. For real mining efficiency you really want a tractor beam which counts out 1-gun ships.

Bandits can be killed with mining lasers, its not much harder. If you go 3-guns I highly recommend 2 mining lasers and 1 tractor beam. A single blaster is not really any better at killing bandits than 2 mk3 mining lasers (especially if you put quickshot on them like I did.)

Best ship for mining is a krayt.

Besides having 3 guns, it handles well at low speeds, and thats key because your putting around the rock.

Bw ing is a PITA as low throttle settings because of oversteering adjustments, krayt handles better, thereby increasing your efficiency.

I am haveing a great deal of sucess mining in my heavy x-wing. I have my pumped up lazers on my main and my mining lazer and my tractor beam as secondary and tirsheary weapons. (sorry about the spelling)
