I mastered my combat professions, so now I am going for Freelance Pilot, and some people have said that they can master pilot in just a few days...can someone care to enlighten me and tell me if they are full of it or if you can actually do that? And if you can, how?

I can make Ace in a day if I really put my mind to it. I usually prefer to take my time a bit more, though. It isn't that hard, though.

Lol.

Of course, Treena already having one master helps with experience.....

J/K Treena.

Yah, Tier one and two in about 3 maybe 4 hours then another four or five for tier3 (only need the mission completes, notexperience) then about just grinding out and missions for tier four. The really long part (some time) is waiting for the vette in kessel for your final mission.

Of course, this is all dependant on the pilot having good equipment, using droid commands (most of us anyway) and, of course, being a competent pilot.

And to help yourself out, read the above stickies here and the loot stickies in the shipwright forum for advice on useing loot.

Actually, I've got three at this point. I should wrap up Storm Squadron tomorrow, now that my vacation is over. I usually do Tiers 1 and 2, then take a break. One Tier 3 mission a day is the norm for me after that, then Tier 4 as I get to it. Grinding XP is the hardest part of all of it, but having the full previous mastery bonus does make that more tolerable. But, like I said, if I were absolutely determined to do it, I could probably grind through the entire thing in a day, maybe two if I didn't have the XP bonus, as grinding Tier 4 without it is kind of a pain.

Nice on the three badges Still stuck on one for each alt here. But, yah, taking time with it instead of just doing it straight through makes for a better time and less of a "I'mWORKING in a GAME!!" feeling.Or maybe thats just me......

Anywho, /agree with the XP grind being the main hold back to anyone doing their first.

yeah it can be done pretty fast, even if you don't have the xp bonus...

having only recently started swg, i have already become cl80 on the ground... with nothing more to do that interest me there....

so i threw myself at space, but having recently completed that also, pretty fast, i'm at a loss of what to do as my server doesn't really have space events...

so be careful about doing it too fast... it might leave you with nothing to do...

The SoE code :
SOE improvement is a lie, there is only nerfing.
Through nerfing, they gain whines.
Through whines, you gain gankings.
Gankings, leads to sploits.
Sploits leads to banning.
And banning sets us free.

Atm im 4444 SS pilot(heading to kessel when i get home from work),when i ace,it will be the full run..all 9

There are some really good spots for xp-grinding for Tier4 beside the normal trainer duty missions, but it depends if you have any other goals:

If you want some FP while grinding then Kessel can be a good spot, but you will spend some time travelling around looking for targets (but at least you can choose, rather than duty missions where the a-wings/aggressors can get onmy nerves)

If you want some easy cash and are prepared to put in a bit of prep work then do the kashyyyk space station missions, up until you get sent to your faction base or get the vaksai mission. At that stage you can do the YT-1300 tier 5 duty missions (it is a non-attackable veteran flying around the station). The trick to these is knowing when to abort. Two situations trigger an abort from me - the first is if the waypoint is over 3km from the station (most spawn points are within 2km, but some are 12km or so). The second is if there is comm chatter about a gunboat. I may be a fair pilot but going up solo against a tier 5 gunboat which is chasing me (and not as a master pilot!) isn't easy, and for the xp reward isn't worth it.

If you want very easy xp very quick, then there are wings of tier 3 mercenary cruisers orbiting the kashyyyk space station. Take them on from behind and watch the turrets, and you get a tier 4 box in less than 2 hours (each kill is equivilant to a tier 5 fighter).

If you've never flown before, give yourself a couple of weeks. As pointed out above, Yes, you can do a mastery very fast. Aside from the Master Pilot Bonuses, Aces also have the familiarity with;

  • The Ships

  • Their Components

  • Their Enemies

And;

  • What hops SWG will ask them to jump through.

You can certainly do this as if it were a race. I think that's as viable, and geniune a goal as any other. Another goal is simply to learn how to fly. Many Pilots Think of Ace as an end goal, and, given that Mastering a Proffession on the ground Is an end goal, it, in and of itself, won't make you a capable Pilot. Unlike the RPG aspect, in JTL, the two are not the same, not by a longshot. Ace merely allows you to use higher level equipment, and different chasis. You will find some Aces who fly lowish level ships, with lowish level gear almost exclusively, and still remain at the top of their classes.

Ace also grants you access to Deep Space, the PvP zone, and home of the Imperial Star Destroyer.

A great many Pilots also earn multiple Ace Badges, for their own personal reasons. Again, don't expect Space to be the same as the ground. Not only is it an FPS, while the progression of the Proffession is linear, and similar seeming to other professions, Being a Pilot is Not linear. It's open ended and dependent Entirely on YOU, not your toon, and not your ship.

The downside of many of the Kashyyyk Duties is that some or all of them are bugged and don't give proper xps. The Independent Slaver mission would be a great tier4 grind mission, but the ships are tier4-5 and grant xps of tier2-3. NPCs are NPCs, andthere's no way these missions should grant any less than full xps.

Have to agree that the Mercenary Freighters that spawn next to the Kashyyyk Space Station make for an easy grind.

3 spawn at a time, only the big one has guns, and all three give you 5K XP each.

Since they are only Tier 3, it is a great place to take n00b pilots for some group practice.

I was able to grind my Tier 4 XP with two other Guild Members this way. (We all three just made Master yesterday! Two Alliance Aces and one Freelance Master Pilot)

What made the Master Cert. Mission even more fun was that when the three of us showed up in Kessel, there were 3 guys from REB, 2 of whom were also going for their Masters, and then two more guys showed up!

Of the 9 pilots who finally ended up attacking the ship, 7 of us Mastered off of it!

Lots of fun, even though I had previously helped others kill the Vette for their Master.

BTW - You are right, in that Ace/Master is not the end-all/be-all.

I am part of a space-based Guild that specialized in helping people develop their space careers, and encourages PvP.

We often take groups hunting Gunboats in Kessel, or make attack runs on the Star Destroyer in Deep Space.

However, we really enjoy taking groups of fighters (yes, we fly as an actual squadron) to Deep Space looking for Imp. Players willing to do a little battle.

Our only gripe is that PvP is way too unbalanced at the moment.

There needs to be more of an equalizing in the number of hits it takes for a Player to take another player out of combat. I mean, look how long it can take to kill an NPC, or for them to kill you.

Your shields go down gradually, not a two hit shot and you're gone!

I do hope we get more space-based missions, and am salivating at the upcoming capital ship release.

p.s. /shout - Devs! Hey! Fix the Mining Mish already! Some of us newer players want our Mining Ship!
