Thread: Free Xwing?
Peeter-Griffin wrote:Thats sortof a half yes half no answer, there is a quest to get the heavy xwing, but no regular. You would need a few master pilots for it, one for the first missions unless you can defend a transport against t2's, some t3's, then 4's and the occasional t5. Then you have to disable a corellian corvette, i tried to take out one of its turrets, and died within seconds doing this. When all the missions are complete, you have a heavy xwing with 180k mass i beleive and a rebel symbol hologram.
I soloed the neutral version of the quest so you dont need a few masters unless the rebel version is alot harder.
Aye .. solo'd both the Imp version and the Nuetral version, IMO they were easier than kessel ... at least these vettes show up on time!
That said, I have no idea what your gear/loadout is. I did them both as master pilot.
The Imp version I did in an opressor, the Nuet version in a Rix, both with some nice RE'd gear.
(used to have a master shipwright)
The Imp version I actually took 2 tries, but only because I made the mistake of starting with a B-strike ... which continued to destroy the vette even after I had captured it. The second time however, It could only be described as a piece of cake.
The Nuetral version I knew what was coming, so for the most part it was even easier. However, I did get a little suprise with that t5 "chaser" gunboat, you know, the one with your number. Even that though, just added some fun.
I havn't been able to do the rebel one yet (bugged).
I would suggest you start by getting your best engine installed, you'll need a lot of speed and boost if the rebel one has any of the "chaser" gunboats.
Start by removing the vettes escorts ... just fly close enough to get thier attention then pull them to a safe distance away from the vettes guns and pummel them. Next aproach from below and behind and take out gun #5 .. this will eliminate the vettes ability to hit you so long as you stay below/behind. Then target the shields and secondary shields, sit right behind/below just close enough to get lock and take out the shields with torps.
At this point you can wait untill the vette is close to the station to shorten the escort portion, though personally I enjoyed the longer escort. It was kinda cool to be fighting with the vette I was defending blazing away at the same targets for a change, but be warned the incoming waves during the escort portion will contain gunboats. Once your close enough, or as close as you want to push it (if the vette gets to the end before you capture it mission will fail) just target the engines and blast away untill it's disabled. Then sit outside it's firing arcs untill it captures. If you only took out gun #5 then it will still have all the other guns to use against the incoming waves once it captures.
note: Even though all weapons that were destroyed appear to respawn once the vette captures, this is only graphical .. destroyed weapons do not come back.
If you've got some nice gear you can try doing it without distroying any of the vettes guns .... but you sound like you might want to play it safe.
Oh and MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL
When your doing to missions and returning to Eyma on Kashyyk
PICK THE "STRONG" RESPONSE
DO NOT PICK THE "WEAK" RESPONSE
When he asks about the pirates.
but ya what really annoyed me about this was that thes gun boats were manuvering better then my POB ship... now that is just wrong
