Afternoon all. Im just 2 boxes and a corvette away from Imperial ace and im currently zinging round in a spiffy Tie advanced. Im loving its speed and turning ability however I am missing my lvl 8 re'd shield and blasters.

When i hit master the oppressor would be the next obvious choice as it will have the room to fit my guns, shield, lvl 10 engine project, lvl 10 DI project, and the rest of my heavier more lethal parts. But the question is will it be as effecient as the T/A?

In other words in PvE which do you feel performs better effeciency wise? Whcih do you fly more and why?

Thanks.

Both are excellent ships.

T/O is a good ship, big and heavy. You can fit a nice sized engine in there and still have room for big guns and a big shield. BUT, it handles like a heavy ship too, a little sluggish, and it's easy to oversteer. Nothing wrong with it at all if it fits your style.

T/A is more of a fighter - handles nice, flies fast, but lighter mass. It'll do better against light ships, in my opinion, like chasing down A-Wings. This is the ship I prefer for PvE.

Fly whichever is closer to the style you like.

Hehe thats the thing i quite like flying in both styles. I flew the krayt as my ship of choice when privateer and my A wing when i was rebel so i like both. However there is always 1 ship thats more effecient than the other trying to work out which one that is.

I'd go with the Oppressor any day, never once have I've been shot down in it cos I can fitt 2lvl8 guns in it, a lvl8 shield and lvl8 engine. 170k is a bless from heaven.

Well, the Oppressor has more potential for sheer damage than the T/A, if that's what you want to hear. But if you can't handle flying a ship with lower handling and a bigger profile, the T/A might be a better choice, and would therefor be more efficient.

I.E., fly both, pick your favorite. Like I said, I just ditched my Oppressorin favor of a lighting but faster T/A.

I've flown both in PvE, reguarly, just depending on my mood at the time. But id force myself to get stick time in both to stay in practice.

Definitely the Oppressor. Pop in a Level 10 RE'd engine, an RE'd L8 Reward Shield, L8 Borstel or Incom gun with the L7 Boltdriver and top it off with 3 Image Rec II missiles for pesky opposing faction players.

Missile Oppressors are beautiful things, but I prefer the thrill of blaster fights. "I Win" buttons just aren't as much fun, after the first few weeks of domination at least

i fly both, usualy the T/A, but when im out hunting gunoats or doing duty missions (agianst easy to hit freelance npcs) ill pull out my dual l10 re gun T/O and thump some heads. agianst small agile ships the T/A is a better choice though. while the T/O dishes out alot more hurt, its of no use if you have a hard time landing hits on that pesky awing. im sure with more practice i could get accurate with the opressor but the T/A gets it done quicky with fast consistanthits using smaller weapons. the T/A is also alot more survivable since the NPCs have a harder time hitting it. sure the T/O can mount a bigger shield, but really the l8 is only 25% better than aMKIV, andi wouldrather take less his than load up on unneeded protection.

Well this weekend i tweeked my T/A enough to fit in a mk3 proton tube and headed for Kessel to find the vette up and waiting for me. and good lord it was the easiest vette kill I've ever done. Having such a nimble ship meant the vette never laid a finger on me and neither did the gun boats. a big improvement on previous vette kills.

So i went and got my spiffy helmet and medal and had a SW make me up an oppressor. Loaded it up with all my heavier nicer parts and headed for a rebel spawn. Cant say i was to impressed. even though i had a nice engine and guns in it i was having a much harder time landing shots on ships as it just wasnt keeping up. Plus i was having to shunt alot more as i was getting shot a fair amount. bit of a let down really. Decided im a T/A man through and through

I did discover however the oppressor makes for an amazing mining ship

Opp is a beast that is not easy to learn it's quirks. After flying all those light, quick fighters (assuming you skipped the T/B), it's a really big change. It can't corner worth anything at full speed, or even 80% speed. But nail that 65% and you'll be flying sideways. And if you really want to get dizzy, hit 40% speed and start doing backflips.

My biggest issue right now is having just stuck a new RE 10 engine in my Opp. 82PYR is actually almost too big of an engine for it. Either that, or I'm way too used to the 8 I've been flying in there. 78PYR is quite nice and ideal for it's mass. The 82 is starting to pull 360s and leave me still in front of my target that's charging me. Learned that one the hard way last night.

But, of the 2, I'd actually say, go with both. You do have 6 slots to use for ships. I keep my T/A setup and sitting there ready at a moments notice. Once nice level 7 in there and just drop in the level 8 engine. Thing will keep turns with most A's.

eh to be honest i am used to flying big brick like ships. i flew the krayt for many many months and also the b wing when i was a rebel master. And to be honest the opp feels like a direct copy of the krayt. I drop it down to 30-35% speed and it turns fine it just doesnt seem as good as pinning shots on stuff IMO plus it gets shot-up way more.seems counter productive IMO. i can see scenarios where it will be more useful firepower wise but for day to day flying the TA seems more effecient.

Yeah, in the end, it comes down to personal preference. It took me a few months to get used to the Opp, but now that's about all I use. Granted, it's not the most effective ship out there, especially on stuff like A-wings where aiming is crucial. But the firepower it can pack more then makes up for it, imo.

If you really want to talk most effective PvE Imp ship, you'd have to go with the RGI. The bug it currently has makes it, hands down, the best choice for PvE. You'll almost never get damaged, and with that, you can go with a smaller shield, no armor, and a big gun. I typically fly mine with an RE'd 8 engine and RE'd 9 gun. Not quite as much firepower as a T/A packing 2 7s, but knowing that I'm not going to get into anything I'll have to worry about makes for some nice relaxing farming.
