Ok all, this is my first post on these forums, so bear with me if I'm asking a repeat question. I have a Y-8 that I'd really like to use for mining. So a guildmate and I went out to take it on a testdrive. Well long story short, I can't seem to get any asteroids to break off using the mining laser (I've tried all 3 weapon slots). Infact, for some reason when I use W2 (the large gun coming off the bridge of the ship), my capacitor won't even go down. I'm using a class 3 mining laser (tried with a class 1 and 2 as well, no results), along with a Mining-Class Capacitor (tried with a looted capacitor as well, no results). Is there something I'm missing on this, or does this mining ship just not mine? Just getting tire of using my Tie Advanced to mine, and would like to take advantage of the Y-8's massive cargo hold.
Thanks,
Ignatius Dakaar

The Mining Ship doesn't mine, you're not the only sad owner to discover this. Between bad bugs and poor overall design, it's the least effective ship ingame right now. But hey! doesnt the inside look neat? huh? neat? insides? that's what matters right?

Lol, I guess it'll be a party barge until (if ever, but for the love of all that is holy please do) it's fixed. Guess I'll continue mining with my POS bomber..

Obviously "best" solely because you think it's fun, not for any practical reason.

Just some basic questions to double check.
1. Did you attach the small cargo hold to it?
2. Try both the class 1 and 2 mining lasers?
3. Make sure the tractor beam is hooked to the driver seat (only way the thing will work)?

I fill up my 1550 hold in my Kimo in 10-15 minutes. I have hardpoints for mining laser, tractor beam and a defense gun. I'm really glad you guys enjoy using the B-22 to mine, but in my mind that's like going for groceries in a Stock Car.

Its a crying shame really isnt it
I am also an owner of a y-8, and totally agree that its completely pointless atm. I did originally have issues with mining to produce chunks, however I had a comission made for me in the form of an elite mining laser, seems to be ok now.
What frustrates me is that, the y-8 would be a viable mining ship, if only SOE managed to get the bloody tractor beams to work.... I currently have a tractor beam as the roof turret, and a defence turret at the rear, yet when I am piloting, and switch on the tractor beam...the beam graphics come out of all hardpoint locations
It would also be an idea to actually let the tractor beam turret tobe allowed to swivel on its axis, instead of being fixed point.
Is there any word on a fix for the y-8?>

Another thing to remember is that sometimes asteroids will quit spawning chunks. You have to completely destroy it and when it respawns it will send out chunks again, I've run into this alot in corellia, Tat, and Naboo space. Doesnt seem to happen much in the higher danger areas though.

... and sometimes they'll blow up after 5 or 6 shots, and sometimes it'll take about 20 (actually, I don't really count, but it feels like forever....) to get them to respawn.
