Thread: Will we ever see the big guys viable in space?

Everyone knows, especially with the JSF out and frequent in space, that teh smaller, more compact your ship is, the better. There are those of use who would liek to be able to take out a Rihk or something big and try to take on a gunboat, but no matter how good the weapon or the pilot, it is next to impossible. And before you tell me to learn how to fly right, get in a Rihk and take on one of those gunboats that are piloted by drunks and you can never stay in the blindspot. It i simpossiible and you are such a large target that he cannot miss, even when you try to pull evasive manuevers.

Does anyone have any tips for going at larger, highend ships like the vette with large gunboats?I have been slaughtered everytime I try, but someone must have a few good tactics.

The big guys are viable in space. It is just easier in a little ship.

I have taken on many drunken, spinning, and chasing gunboats in a Kryat. One is no problem. Two are a bit tricky. You have to joust them, you can't pull the blind-spot trick. With full shields charge in blasting, boost away when you pass it. Hit CtSS when you boost away, or sooner only if you have to. Fully recharge your shields and cap before starting another run. Target the engine while doing this. Once you get the engine, go sit in the blind spot and finish the job.

Spinners are a little easier, you can time the spin so you're hitting the belly of the gunboat for most of your run. You don't taken early as much fire doing this.

For a vette, get under it, target weapon 5, and fire a Concussion III missile at it. Since there is only one gun on the bottom, you can attack the shields and engine from relative safety. Using all ordinance on the guns, it is easy. Using blasters, it's a bit more challenging in a big ship. Take straffing runs at individual guns, always turning away to the underside of the vette. That's your safe spot where you can recharge. Try to keep it so only 1 gun can shoot at you so you can survive the run. If too many can target you, you will not last long.

I hope that helps.

On a big ship you get an advantage: BIG SHIELDS. Load up some big shields and armor, use a decent engine and on a Rhykzerk you can still fit 2 level 8 and 1 level 7 gun. Use all the level 3 overloads. Do strafing runs on the GB's that follow you or fly erraticly. You cant just try to get close and sit in thier blind spot. boost thru the run and open fire at 600m. target the engine. continue to boost until you are out of weapon range. It is also advisable to note the orientation of the GB asyou get within 100m and attempt to fly thru it so as to come out of your run beneath it. this spares your rear shield. Use cap to shield shunt 3 or 4 on a cap overlad 3 capacitor and you have effectively become a tank. Take a litte time and keep your shields healthy and you wont evn scratch your armor. This is coming from a lover of large ships, I flew the Rhyk extensively asNeutral pilot, and I am a Bwing fanatic as well

gunboats are easy in a rihkxyrk, the fact that it has the mass to load up three cert 8 guns, a well RE'd reward shield, and 1k in armor front / back makes it a good tank. Add in CtSS4 with a fast droid interface and there's not a damned thing short of a corvette in PVE that can make a dent in you

The T4 exit mission for RSF (2 gunboats, 10 fighters, all chasing), nigh impossible with the Vaksai, it just didn't have the firepower to take the ships fast enough... in my Rihk, soloed it in double quick time

Ok, well, let me know what you guys think of my component configuration on my Krayt. Have't tested it yet against anythign big, but I defiitely have to free up some mass.

Reactor- Generation 13594 Mass 8413

Engine- Top Speed 88 Mass 34398

Shield- HP 1539 Mass 32742

Cap- Energy 746 Mass 4991

Booster- Top Speed 24 Mass 3296

Droid Int.-Speed 24 Mass 3091

Waepon1- Damage 1976-3201 Mass 36912

Weapon2- Damage 1976-3201Mass 36912

Weapon3- Damage 1332-1951 Mass 9585

Weapon 4- Damage 1798-2844 Mass 3276

Total Mass-202909 out of a possible 210224.

Droid runs all the Freelancer Level Four programs and the Imperial Engine (faster) program 3 and the Weapons overload 3. I dunno what I need to do to make it better- the weapons of course could be replaced or removed. Any tips? I am sure I will come up with something and pos it later to see if its any good but for now i am out. I already have to overload the reactor to give it enough energy for everything to work, but if I knew how much energythe overload supplied I may be able to put in a lighter one, although it would make little difference.

personally you can do way better with your engine, cap, sheilds, booster and droid.

shields alone you could get 1900 at about 17k mass.. droid.. want that speed a bit lower.. unless that engine has kick a$$ tunring, it is not that great for the mass.. with all these changes you could get a better cap in there with more energy.. one day they will fix weapons overload 3.. well it is sony so maybe not... but look to lower the mass on some of these and you can upgrade the things you need too.. shields is the first one i would hit..

the ones i am using right now are player made 17k mass with 14. regen and 1900 shields..

Wow, don't know what vendorbuy frombut I sure hope it's on Eclipse. I have never seen anythign even close to that good with the mass. I will check though- if there's equipment out there that good I will be really surprised.

Well what would you consider good weapons and shield? I have always tried to put in weapons that do 3k damage on the Rihk, but that tends to take up too much mass. Should I drop them for somethign a little lighter?

I seriously doub that- you may be able to drive circles aroudn it, but I doubt any gunner is able to to shoot the thing if the turrets handle anything like a YT or Decimator. And dont forget that one large tactival advantage of the POB ship in PVE is that it can shoot while flying away from the enemy- all one must do is maintain a 550 or so range and it can be done easily. I hace done ti a few times in my YT.But I am not talking about POB ships, I am talkign about big fighters.

Reactor - A Mark III crafted would be 7400 mass 14k generation.
Engine - Is that the level 8 reward engine? Gather up 7 more engines to try to get it to 25k mass >70 PYR.
Shield - Either use your Armek "Plasma Web" Shield Generator reward level 8 shield or a 1900 HP Mark IV crafted.
Capacitor - You need a better capacitor. A good level 4 or 6, REd if possible.
Booster - unless that is an REd reward booster, crafted is lighter and faster with a 10 second burn.
Droid Interface - Crafted is lighter and faster. Mark III is 18-19 speed for 2700 mass.

Unless you have a passenger, drop the turret gun. I can't remember for sure, but I think the turret is weapon 3. Double check in the configuration UI, you can see where the weapons got mounted.

yea i take one or 2 hits but over all nothing. i can understand that you dont believe me but if u want to see for yourself im on bria server. and i did say a good crew as in someone that knows how to shoot

but just cuz you cant do it dosent mean it cant be done. and i know your talking about big fighter ships but my point was if i can do it in a big MP ship you can do it in any large fighter. and i was freelance at one time it is possable and the many others that posted can to it too.
