Thread: Idea: Forward Locked Turrets

Would anyone else like this particular feature from the X-Wing/Tie Fighter games to be implimented in SWG? Basically the idea is that when you don't have anyone in one of your turrets, the turrets are locked in a firing position parallel with the main guns and can be fired along with the rest of the forward guns.

This can be observed by the YT-1300 and YT-2000 in X-Wing Alliance and the Y-Wing in any of the X-Wing games.

Frankly, I always loved this. And I think it would be great, ESPECIALLY in the case of the PoB ships, with no guns in the front of their own. With locked turrets, a single person might actually fly his PoB into combat now and then.

Not only that, but some other ships that aren't so great now become more usable. The Arc-170 for instance, becomes ALOT more usable compared to its other quested conterparts. And the addition of turrets to the forward arsenal wouldn't give any of the ships any more guns available than B-Wing.

What do you think?

They are multiplayer ships. What part of multiplayer is confusing to you?

They do need modifications to make them more viable in PvE and PvP, but making them singleplayer isn't it.

Trying to use a POB in a dog fight even with fixed forward firing laser turrets would be kinda funny to watch.

I think they should allow it but let the Operations guy do the shooting not the pilot to keep it multiplayer.

Heh...pretty much the only advantages of themultiplayers/POBsis theturrets can turn and you can repair inflight. Why fly a YT1300 with two forward facing imobile guns when you can fly a faster, more manueverable Krayt with three? It's simply not supposed to work that way.

Because the YT has essentially unlimited mass...

and it handles like it does too!

I would love to have this option for the Y-wing. I thought I was getting a 2-weapon ship, but it's effectively a 1-weapon ship. If I'm playing with another pilot, it's usually more effective to let them use their own ship.

Actually they are multipassanger ships. What part of "multi-passanger" is confusing you?

I for one would really like to see an option for locking the guns in a forward position.

Your Tier 2 Y-wing is a two-weapon ship. Rebels get their two-person ship early on. Imps don't see ours until Tier 4. I think Freelance gets theirs at Ace.

try getting a y-wing longprobe. its basically the smae thing as y-wing but single player, so you control both guns.

As has been mentioned, the 5mil mass allows you to do some fun stuff with it. Certainly nothing I'd use in PvP, but could be fun for taking on those gunboat duty missions in Kyshyyyk.

It would be interesting, but i think it would be more interesting if we could have AI manning our turrets in our starfighters, its nearly impossible for another player to use one of those things.
