Thread: Y-8 Still Unable to Mine
Did you try making the asteroid respawn? Sometimes they get bugged.
/examine the targetted asteroid
As you shoot it with a mining laser you should see its condition drop, when it gets to 0 it will respawn.
That usually fixes bugged asteroids.
And, the Y-8 does have special cargo holds just for that ship that have increased carrying capacity. The quest giver gives you one that holds 5000.
I would have loved to have made the asteroid respawn, but it wouldn't put any damage onto the asteroid. I tried roughly five asteroids in three different systems, all with the same result: 0 damage to asteroid by my Y-8.
The asteroids all ranged in condition to fully healed to roughly 1200.
If it's just my ship, I'll file a ticket, but I'd like to find out if anyone else here is able to actually mine with their Y-8's. I can shoot the guns... I can pilot the ship... I can even move my furniture around inside... but I can't get chunks to come off asteroids.
Oh... please don't tell me to come at the asteroids in excess of 500... that's the non-fix way of hitting asteroids in the Y-8, and this should NOT be how it works.
Did you run a Weapon Overload program? If not, try again with a WO running. I was running WO3.

At least then my MT-22 Krayt, currently the best ship for mining, would actually be more effective and wouldn't cause me to waste more time in travel than in actual mining.
to mine you need to have
ONE PERSON IN THE PILOT SEAT.
THE ASTROID YOU MAY BE MINING COULD BE BUGGED (this happens when 3 astroid chunks spawn and are not shot in time)

If one is sitting in the PILOT SEAT and using a MINING LASER and has ROTW and 99/100 times(freak hit on aTier 1 Z-95 in Tatooine Space)NOTHING happens to the targetwhen the pilot laser is fired, whether a regular starship weapon, or a mining laser, at a ship or an asteroid(where appropriate, I wasn't shooting an asteroid with a regular starship weapon)...is there a bug?
Sounds like a latency issue.
We tested a Y-8 earlier tonight loaded out to mine as well. It worked. We were horrible at it but it worked. We're going to fix the setup a bit not sure how yet. I'm assuming we need to get the proper distance from the asteroid but as far as the pilot could tell the tractors were working and the mining lasers were working.
Just thought I'd put my findings in as well. And yeah it did seem like the mining process grinded to a halt when the pilot would get out of his chair.
the problem reported by the original poster is a known problem, but a rare one. It seems as if some of the posters are posting to say that this problem is not occuring. However, I do not think the original poster was trying tospeak tothe players who have Y-8s that work. He was instead informing those of us who have non-functioning Y-8s that were hoping this publish would address the issue causing our ships to not work. Specifically, I appreciate this very much because I have not had the time to screw around with my Y-8 since the pub went live. Now I know not to hold my breath when I do decide to re-deed mine and give it another try.
And just to clarify, the problem is with the Y-8 itself, not the asteroids, and not the pilot. In some y-8 ships, installed mining lasers will not function. They do not drain cap energy, they do not make any sound effects for passengers (pilot can hear them if pilot is shooting. they do make visual effects), they do nout output any damage (be it to ships or asteroids). Well, more specifically the problem lies with the player, it seems. For when a CSR gave me a new Y-8, I still experienced the same issue. I was told it was an issue with how the code was written for me to use a Y-8. Any Y-8 of mine will not function.
