I've been thinking about this the entire time since JtL came out, and it still doesn't make sense to me that CorSec is the straight-up neutral and Smuggler's Alliance rebel-aligned - it's entirely backwards.*
Corellia is an independent system with its biggest politician being clearly rebel oriented- some of your missions in the rebel theme park even involve him. The rebel base is "hidden" northwest of Kor Vella. The Rebellion finds it a very friendly place in general.
On the other hand, you have Nym, Jabba, the Hutts, Valarian, and Black Sun that all have ties with the Empire for business purposes. Some of the missions you even do in the process of going through this set involve giving information and working with the Imperials. Some of the missions in the Imperial theme park involve working with Black Sun.
Jabba is such a force that he's like a third pole almost to the Empire and Alliance. There are so many people that do the Smuggler's Alliance or would want to because it's the most movie related - why did the devschoose to limit people who feel too conflicted by being an Imperial to not be able to participate in it because it's rebel-aligned. It's the biggest thing in the game there is related to the movies that isn't part of the Galactic CivilWar- and the devs think Jabbacares about theAlliance?Who really thinks of Jabba as being Rebel-aligned? I certainly don't think of him as being Imperial-aligned, but in the sense of who greases whose palms and straight-up mercenary desires (think Lando cooperating with the Empire or Boba Fett and various other mercenaries, informants and bounty hunters) why is the Smuggler's Alliance and Jabba in the game as Rebel aligned instead of completely independent of GCW label?
*If this topic has been previously beaten to death, I couldn't find it - so my apologies if I missed it.

Since Smuggler's is the most popular Freelance among all factions, I think it should definitely be neutral only. Sucks not being able to help your guildmates.

While I agree that the final missions and the ability to chooseshould be switched (always felt that way too). That's the only functional difference between the two. SA can help anyone, unless they're going after Hutts, so its not a big deal.

actually trying to help anyone in the RSF when you are SA is....interesting to say the least.

I think it makes sense smugglers are rebel because why would smugglers like the Empire at all? I mean, the empire thinks of them as criminals after all.

Umm do you mean helping anyone in Corsec? I'm doing RSF now, and most of the missions I remember in my whirlwind tour have been against Ay'nat and Balck Sun, both fully targetable by the SA. I do recall some Corsec missions vs Hutts though, so I see your point, if that's what you meant

I think it does make sense. CorSec, to not be targeted by the Empire, has to be able to swing both ways. They can't be enemies of the Empire and still exist on Corellia as a law organization. Furthermore, the Empire would not use outlaw pilots to perform important military operations in a strategic zone (e.g. Kessel), while they would tap local militias if their own forces were stretched too thin.
On the other hand, the Alliance does business with smugglers and various criminal organizations. While the smugglers aren't going to directly align themselves with the Rebellion and risk incurring more than the usual wrath of the Empire, they're certainly going to work for a force that isn't trying to blow them out of space. Naw, I think the current freelance alignments are fine.

So do the rebels, they have scaned me for sliced weapons and spices enought times now. Personaly as a Smuggler Alliance master pilot I don't feel associated with the Rebels or the Imperials and going into kessel and blowing up both sides can be alot of fun

Being a smuggler, I started out in the Smuggler's Alliance. I am also an Imperial, so I started to wonder why some NPC ships that shouldn't be attacking me seemed to like to light me up.
I checked in to things on the board and found SA was "Rebel Aligned". Why couldn't they explain this better in the intro to the various squadrons?
It's too bad they didn't integrate ground factions and space factions. Hutts and Nym like me on the ground, but in space they hate me along with the Bloodrazors, Corsairs, etc.
I guess they made it so you could essentially master all 9 squadrons? I mean, as an Imperial, could I have joined a Rebel squad? Now that would be weird.

If the ground and space were more integrated, the Imperial Inquisition would have executed you for crimes against the empire! ![]()
After all, why is an loyal imperial breaking Imperial contraband laws?
Let's not talk about ground and space integration. Space in all is much better than the ground since the ground is a mess. No reason for the ground's disease of lowering the difficulty to the common denominator infect space. The reason they didn't make things "integrated" as one would put it, is that they wanted players to have more flexibility. By all rights, the imperial players should have no choice as to faction.
