Thread: Ship Components... How Do You Price Them?

I'm curious to see how everyone prices the loot components they get from space. I myself am not out to screw people over, but do want to make a buck. The way I see it, the components shouldn't cost 3 or 4 times the ship. So my formula for pricing is this... let me know what you think, and how you do it:

Certification Level 1 Components- 1,000 credits

Certification Level 2Components- 3,500 credits

Certification Level 3 Components- 5,500 credits

Certification Level 4 Components- 7,500 credits

Certification Level 5 Components- 10,000 credits

Certification Level 6 Components- 12,000 credits

Certification Level 7 Components- 15,000 credits

Certification Level 8 Components- 18,000 credits

I know I could get A LOT more for some of these parts... but like I said... I'm not out to screw people. I get in about 30-40 components a day if I spend a good amount of time in space... so, I end up making off fairly well in the end (majority of my components are level 4, 5, and 6).

What it really breaks down to is 2-6 levels go for .5 times the level. Level components 7 and 8 go for twice the certification plus 1,000 for 7's and plus 2,000 for 8's.

I put a bunch of these up in Eisley and Coronet, and sold probably 15 or 20 in one day which worked out well.

Your thoughts?

All even levels go to my friendly neighbourhood sw, who diverts part of the revenue to me after re'ing and selling the parts. Odd stuf goes straight to the chassis dealer. I keep the really good stuff.

Apart from that, there's one player on Eclipse that really makes an effort to create the best of the best, so my really unique stuff goes to him (for a hefty price,he shouldn't have picked the wrong side of thewar ). Just because it would be a shame to use it for a mere above average stats part.

Your way would work too, but I consider it too much effort for too little revenue.

Question: Your prices are pretty good for filler components. I hope you do price sub 25k mass L8 guns, 1400 RED l6/8 engines and such higher then that?

I've been keeping the components standard by Certification Level... not the component traits themselves. It just seems to work out well that way (easier for me). I've thought about searching for a shipwright, but I'd rather give everyone the opportunity to buy and customize their shipfrom a main central city, than have to go to a Player City and pay the retail price (inflated by a middle man).

Depends. Good and average stuff I keep in my loot houses for RE work later with a friendly SW. Excess weapons/engines/shields I tend to sell for 2-3k above loot level, sometimes more. But I only use the bazaar. Everything else gets dumped on the chassis vendor - although I could make more, it isn't worth the time.

I used to sell to a SW who bought parts for double the cert level - but he left the game.

For myself, I'll first check and see if any of the loot is inline with other components that I'm saving for RE later. After that, the rest just goes up on the Coronet bazaar for RE Level +1k. Evidently I could be charging a bit more, but to be honest, I really don't care. It moves the components fast enough that I usually don't hit my listing limit, and I at least make a little more than I would get just for selling them to a chassis vendor.

I typically only save the best of the best for myself, but I've gotten into a habit of saving L7/8 weapons *I* wouldn't use personally, but others might be happy with for filler and the like for Boltdriver/Borstel/Incom REs.

For that I typically use the Level + 100k formula, leading to a 107/108k pricing structure that I find works well.

If I ever got into selling L9 and 10 weaponry, obviously those are a fair sight RARER, and command a certain premium, in which case I'd probably bump it up to 210k for L9s and 300k for L10s - giving a Level x 30000 formula. That'd be for "vanilla" parts with "meh" to "okay" stats.

For EXCEPTIONAL parts, I'd probably go with the Level x 30000 formula plus a further multiplier for just HOW exceptional a part is.

For example...

A 25k mass L8 engine vs. a 22k L8 engine. The first might garner a 240k price tag to me, but seeing as the 22k is *much* better, I'd apply a 3x or 4x modifier to its value to jump the price to 720-960k.

It's all objective.

I appreciate it (a lot!), but I'll pass. At this point if I farm I want to dump stuff quickly. And, um, since I couldn't care less about the ground game, so I don't know what I'll even spend my money on, as little as I have. Although Nearro supposedly is going to send me a list of what to keep for him.

Honestly - even the rare stuff like level 10 guns - the time it takes to collect a good set of 10 I end up with many, many fillers. And I'd guess that most farmers are the same. I went from dying for level 7 guns back when I didn't have farming figured out to having too many to use. Even the rare stuff becomes junk when you're hunting for stats.

As a shipwright, I price mine based on quality of resources, risk involved in crafting (crit fails tend to cost you quite a bit), and my own reputation of refusing to go forward on anything less than a Great Success. I also use enhancers in all my gear.

Level 1- 5000
Level 3 - 10000
Level 5 - 15000
Level 7 - 100000
Level 9 - 150000

Understand, when you get into the higher grades, you're looking at a major investment of resources that can be flushed down the tubes on a bad roll of the dice. Plus the resources I use are extremely high quality, some going for more than 10cpu.

For chassis, I tend to base it on materials required. 5cpu for normal resources, 20cpu for asteroid (I'll mine my own stuff before getting into competition with Vehicle Repair Kit makers)

Don't forget that level 1 components, I am also a shipwright and those level 1's are great for KSE disk hunting.

You really should price based on the quality of the part. For example, cert 3,5,7,9 loot capacitors are always absolute crap. The only people who are buying them from you are the ones hunting for Kuat fragments. But you are probably selling exceptional cert 2,4,6 capacitors for a fraction of their value.

There are 4 classes of loot components.

1. 1 or more exceptional stat that will be part of an exceptional component. These parts are significantly better than crafted. I'd say these are worth 100k-1m per RE level depending on the part type. I would place some of the reward components in this category.

2. 1 or more good stat that is as good as or better than crafted, but not good enough for #1. I'd say 10-100k per RE level is appropriate here.

3. Filler, no good stats on the piece, but is used to complete an RE of #1 or #2 above. I'd say 5-10k per RE level.

4. Garbage. Never beats crafted. Destroy it in space to make room, sell it straight to the chassis dealer, or sell it to a Firespray hunting SW for 1-2k per level.

I keep most REd #1s for my own use unless I really don't need it. Surplus REd #1s and #2s go on my parts vendor.

This table: Janann's RE Chart and www.spaceloot.com should be your bible here. The slightly outdated Prima JTL game guide also has some rather interesting loot tables in it...

As far as loot components go, I see pre-RE level 8 and 10 components (Engines, weapons, shields, capacitors, Droid interfaces, Reactors)regularly going for 1000000 a pop on Kettemoor. One player named Somesome tends to buy them off the bazaar, then resell them on his vendor on Corellia.
