Thread: Swordsman or Pike for PvE?

I have novice swordsman and novice pikeman. I dont have enough skillpoints to master both. I am wondering which one is truly better at PvE. I know this board is biased, but so am I. I like Pike better but I just want whats best for PvE. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Pikeman = Better for groups
Swordsman = Good for groups and against single enemies

errr!!! maybe I'll just master swordsman and go up only a little bit in pike. Now can you give me tips on what branches to go up?

Unless you master, don't bother. You will be too slow and misstoo much. Plus, once you see how sword is you will never pick up another pike 
If you master sword, then take up some defenses in fencer instead.

Right now i have a Master Brawler/Master Swords/Master Pike/Some tka(mostly for meditation and force of will)/Novice medic.
I love pikeman. I have dropped using the scythe entirely and now use alooted LVA for my main kinetic weapon. On the other hand, blast damage from swordsman is a god send, its almost like having an I WIN button.
For pvp, i have found thatmy looted pikes Mind Poison and Mind Fire allow me to be an integral part of any raiding party, and swords is pretty much useless unless they are silly enough to take of their helmet.
In conclusion, unless you plan on killing nighsister elders or some other kinetic resistant mob, go with pikeman, otherwise go with swords.

pooey. I totally planned on killing NS elders. Like, thats it. Thats basically all I wanted to kill. Well I dropped medic and doc and now have enough skill poitns to master both Swords and pike.

how you gonna kill elders with a Pike? Anyway, I've not lost a duel to a swordsman yet, currently master pike, 4-3-4-0 doc, 4-0-0-0 fencer. Of course I've got some really good dot pikes....

I have and really like both, along with master brawler you'll be speed capped with most 4.x speed pikes in Pikeman and both Swords and Pike are great in area of enemy attacks but the blocking in pike can slow you down and you would need some accuracy mods. If you want to fight most things in PVE, swordsman is the one hands down since it is common among high end mobs/enemies to have lower resists to blast.

I found the combo great when fighting NS, I have some mind poison and fire dot pikes and poke them with those and then use headhit3 with the powerhammer, it speeds it up a bit and I sometimes switch to the LVA when her resists begins to drop so I can hit faster.

If you're not going to PVP, then master pikeman/swordsman, TKA 4000, medic 0040 is your best bet. Toss the extra skill points into the last line of TKA for melee/ranged defense or medic for extra healing (which you won't need). If you ARE going to PVP, go novice medic and get master brawler for intimidate 2 and lunge2, which are invaluable. Especially lunge because Swordman's KD sucks.
