Hello. *wave* Not new to the game, been playing 9 months as an MCH/MR. But I'm new to melee professions and very new to Pikeman. The thread on grinding to Pikeman has been very helpful.
I'm about 1-1-1-1 on pikeman now, and I have a question. I'm confused, and maybe my confusion is all for nothing. Or maybe the answer to my question is.. ... "because that's the way it is."
Why the certification for the Vibro Lance for Novice Pikeman versus the certification for the Vibro Axe only requiring Polearms IV?
As far as I can tell, the Vibro Axe is the better of the two weapons, unless I'm missing something. My alt is a master weaponsmith, and aside from a mild speed difference, I see nothing that makes the Vibro Lance necessarily a better weapon per se than the Vibro Axe. I know the Axe is kin and the Lance is elec, but the HAM costs are the same. The Vibro Axe delivers a harder hit.
In terms of base weapons (meaning not the uber-looted NS lances), which do you prefer, and why? Or can you point me to a thread that discusses this?
I'm sure this has been debated already, please forgive my ignorance on the subject. My ears are open to all responses and suggestions, for I am new at the profession.

The range mods =)
It is MUCH harder to hit accurately with an LVA and you will miss FAR more often.
In the long run what seems like a small difference is actually a big one.

Sorry you asked a few questions and I didn't really say what I was responding to...
I was just speaking to your confusion over the difference between LVA and Vibro Lances =)
They are both very good weapons and have different situations where one is more effective.

My assumption is that the VL is at novice pikeman because it's electric damage and for no other reason. Both fencers and swordsman get their non-kinetic weapon at novice as well.
Otherwise, the LVA is the superior weapon 90% of the time once you have the accuracy boxes to make it usable.

Well, I'm 3-1-1-2 now, and I'm already seeing the speed difference with the LVA improving, so I'm assuming that at Master when I hit the speed cap that it will be just fine.
