Hi all,
I'm new to SWG and obviously new as a Pikewoman.
I liked what I've read so far on you board, however I'm looking for just a bit more (typicle woman).
I've joined a PA and now they want me to be the tank for the groups.
I don't know much about being a tank and was hoping there's a string somewhere you can link or give me some pointers.
How I've been show to tank so far is...
(example of a nest)
Step a little bit away from the nest.
Call someone to shoot at it (knocking on the door)
Then I go to the mob and gain agro and start to whoop up on it as the range players light it up.
Things that I would like to know,
Is this the way it's usually done? I'm an old EQ player so tanking is not unknown to me.
What's the fastest way to gain agro (besides using the taunt special ) ?
Good weapon for me as tank would be?
Good weapon for me as tank would be?
Best armor to use would be? (was thinking Ubese armor)
Like I said I'm newb, but willing and ready to learn.
So far I'm amp'd about being a Pikewoman and her moves look great.
Post what you feel would help me accomplish my goals
Thanks,
Selma Delnagu

first, yes, that's exactly what tanking is...you draw aggro, and they beat the hell out of it.
Second, /taunt is THE tank command, there is no faster way...however, make sure you are pushing clear on your combat que before you use /taunt, that should speed it up a little. Also, if you hit the MOB before it can get close to anyone else, it'll aggro you. Finally, if you are the one hitting the lair, all MOBs from that lair will attack you, making you a more effective tank.
As far as professions go, fencer/TKM is the best tanking combo out there. you'll have great defense, a /dodge CoB ability, and TKM toughness. CoB makes you extremely hard to hit, and TKM toughness reduces the damage you take from melee hits a ton...as a TKM with 80% kin. composite (this is the tankers armor) I was getting hit for less than 100 points of damage by aAncient Krayt Dragon, argueably one of the toughtest creatures in the game.
Umm...that's all I can think of right now....maybe after I eat, I'll think of something else...

I only have to disagree with the krayt dragon thing, they do not hit very hard, compared to NS elders for example, I want to believe that, SBDs are kicking VERY hard, compared to krayt.
but yes, krayt dragons are still a good thing to tank.

Ancient Krayt hit MUCH harder than any other kind of Krayt. They make the non-force-powered Elders look like cabbage patch dolls.
And in turn...Nightsister Elders are butter compared to Spiderclan Elder. (take a NS elder and givehigh blast and energy resist too =)
Good Hunting!

If you plan on staying pike, do yourself a big favor and make the grind into the TK lines. Meditate up to 2 (will give you powerboost and the ability to self heal poisions), and the striking line up to 4. If you have the SP's, the speed and damage line will help rack up the xp signifigantly.
If you have enough support, and there is little concern of splitting up the xp you should be tapping the lair. Should one pop quick due to lag it will instantly aggro you. Use your area attacks when more of the mobs start coming out of the lair. Taunt to pull em back to you. Depending on what you are fighting, the numbers coming off the mobs heads can tell you who is attacking what, so if you have someone shooting a mob other than what you are targeting you can toss a taunt it's way every so often. Get yourself a crate of Canape and use that to help keep your mind pool up should you need to chain CoB/Taunt. If you have dots, place em as early as possible if you are taking on several mobs at once. If the mobs have more than 20Kish HAM make sure everyone puts their bleeds down.
Other than that, just go to town with your area attacks. I've found the area stun to be all but useless, and tend to use PH2 if I need to put a single stun down. Then alternate AoE's, Sweeps, and PH3, clear and taunt only when you see a mob start to turn.
Now, things like Krayts and SBD's are a lil different. The Krayts you need to make sure you stay still when taking aggro, it will move and look like it's outta range but it is just setting itself into range to attack you. Should you move, it will move, and you'll chase it half way accross Tat. SBD'sI would tend to chain CoB, taunt, taunt, PH3, then alternate taunt and PH3. Reason for this is the moment another one would spawn I would jump that one, and let the current target follow me, then being lucky enough to have two on me...I'd bounce taunts off em both, still chaining CoB and just auto attack. Either case, you take a bad hit to the head and you are gonna feel it, then your buddys will too.
Good luck.

Great posts all,
From taunts to armor to different profesion lines that help with being a better tank.
Thanks, I'll work on it and practice it.
If I have anymore questions I'll know who and where to come to for follow up advice.
Very informative /bow
