Thread: how good is pike for pve?

i cant stand fencer for pve right now im master brawler, fencer and rifleman and i am considering going either swordsman or pike the only thing is about half of my guild is swordsmen. please give me some feedback on how it holds up at places like death watch bunker, tanking for krayts and geo caves.

I have been all the Melee professions. I have to say that Pikes is pretty hot stuff. It's certainly the most stylish in combat, not that that matters.
However - though I cam currently Master Pikes - I have to give the laurel to Master Swords. The Blast Hammer kills eveything. My Vibrolance and VAxe can't take down the high end Nightsisters.
And, quite simply, Heavy Swords does it faster. I am speed taped up (thouugh not maxed out) and it took me 40 mins to solo a Tusken Witchdoc (180k) which a Heavy Swords could have taken in 10 mins.
Add to that, our innate defences are much, much lower....

yes.. i agree... i love pike.. but HS mind hits are more reliable... if you are speed capped pike you can go toe to toe with a non taped HS and win easily... only problem is hit3 hurts itself....
but otherwise its great.. looks good... and everyone is turning pike now

It really depends on the type of PVE you're interested in. if you want to go one on one, swords is the better bet, but if you want to take down several critters in one go or indeed several humaniods Pikeman is your cup of tea.
Against humaniods Pikeman comes into it's own especially against several opponents, AOE stun, AOE dizzy, AOE knockdown, sit back and relax. You just do not get better than that against multiple opponents, but if you wanna go one on one, get out that hammer.

For PvE i love this career. Last night i fought non-stop against nightsister protector, rangers and spell weaver they just kept spawning and i kept killing. Got five crystals amd some other cool stuff. Even tanked a elder while five rifleman plinked away. They needed to give me a stim every now and then but we won in the end. For PvE this is the career.

Regarding your battle with the NS Elder...
Were you actually doing any damage to her? Even with my high-end VL with its Medium AP I seemed to be doing her no harm at all. She has, as you know, 100% resist to Electricity and Kinetic.
She's the only creature I, as a Master Pikeman, still run away from.
If only that Energy Lance were easier to get.

If you have alot of time on your hands and some nice disease/fire weapons you can usually out last an elder. Once they hit 999 BF, the disease will really start to kick in. Once the disease does about 40k of wounds to them, their armor will start to drop. At that point it's just a matter of patience.
(FYI - My patience has landed me 1 cargo pocket, 1 satchel, a premium crystal when soloing. A friend though just looted me a +25 polearm speed armor attachment off a NSE so they are most assuredly worth the hassle)
