Thread: to the pikemen/other posters who respond to price checks and such...

If you see a price check, please do not answer the price check. The reason being is this:
Currently we get people that come in, asking for price checks, and then some "do-gooder" comes in and answers...now, the reason I say "do-gooder" is because these people are, in fact, hurting our community.
"but that doesn't make sense..." you might say. "All I'm doing is trying to help XYZ on his price check that you all flamed."
Well, the reason is this.
When someone puts up a price check, a few things happen:
#1, they are breaking the rules, as outlined by Jeassa's sticky.
#2, they may, in fact, be driving up the prices in the pike market.
How do I figure that, you ask?
Well, it's simple. Say that the poster doesn't state their server name. An easy enough thing to forget. Now, someone from Eclipse comes in and says that the pike is worth 5 mill. Little does this Eclipsian know that the price-checker is from FarStar, one of the Europeon servers, where prices aren't quite as high...
Additionally,
even if the person does mention their server name, your stating, "well, it would go for this much on my server" will only help further drive inflation...
Anywho, thanks for reading my post, flame if you must, but I hope this will at least reach someone.

good point..
I really dont respond to the queries because i honestly dont know the value of cross server pikes. On lowca, the good ones go for 2 - 6 mil which in my mind is pretty inflated.
oh well... some people have more money than brains
thanks for the posting, if some one really wants to respond to a price check, a pm may be more appropriate.

5 stars for you for being one of the only people I've ever seen ask for a price check in here and not get obnoxious when asked to use your trade forum. Thank you.
Just one thing I'd suggest in addition to the original post. Flaming people who come looking for price checks does nobody any good. Such posts are generally better left ignored or politely directed to their galaxy's trade forum. If the person persists, just ignore them and they'll eventually wander off.

May I respectfully disagree with the original post?
I have been 24 professions. All the Ranged and now, with Master Pikeman, all the Melee.
Of all the boards, this one has the most contemplative and helpful posters. Jeebus, you should read the L337 ejaculations on the BH forums. But enough of that.
True, inexperienced and novice pikemen, proud of their new profession, do post Price Checks here - when they should do so on the Trade Forums. But it costs us nothing to help them with our own experience. They get little but flames and abuse on the trade pages anyway.
On digressive note, it is ironic that, if thos board is anything to go by, it is we Stickmen whoseem to have the relfective, almost philosophicalcalm that those Jedi scampering about Starports ambushing Novice Droid Engineers should have. The time of our revenge shall soon be at hand, eh? If we were so vulgar as to think about revenge.

For the most part, I tend to agree. It's easy to be the poster boy for grace and good manners while you're king of the hill but it's another entirely to exhibit those traits when thingsaren't going your way. And, right now, things aren't going the Pikemen's way. While we may be a little impatient and frustrated, we're far from the whining, short-tempered loudmouths that seem to dominate a lot of other profession-oriented forums, even those that have it considerably better than we do at the moment.
If I were going to suggest a cheesy 80s-style T-shirt that we could all wear, it would no doubt say, "Pikemen do it better on the bottom!"
