Thread: Pikeman PVE noob ?

Hi, Ihave a longtime Swordsman/TK/Ranger and Im considering a switch to Pike because of some tapes I have amassed - +10 speed +8 accuracy.
Was wondering if the community could express thier thoughts about the viability of Pike for PVE vrs Sword. I have to harvest hides and be able to continue to loot difficult mobs with therelative easeI do now with +80 2h speed.(+75 is basic master speed)
If anyone has done Sword and Pike before I would be interested to know what you think. Like weighing dmg type resitrictions, DPSand what was/is more fun for you!!!.

IMO, the one thing that's unique about Pikeman is that we actually do better against multiple mobs as opposed to a single opponent. It's truly a fun profession and you'll do really well in PvE. The only limitation you'll find is against extremely high end NPCs such as NS Elders because they have 100 resists to all of our damage types.
I was a Swordsman for a long while and it was fun. To me, what made swordsman successful was blast damage and that's about it. The one thing I remember about Swordsman is you can solo the geo cave, which is very very cool.
If you're talking about straight PvE for the sole purpose of having fun and killing critters as your ranger, Pikeman will do extremely well for you. For what it's worth, neither of these professions take long to master. If you're honestly thinking about this, why not Master Pikeman and see how it feels?
Ultimately, there's this intangible vibe/feel you get with your profession, in terms of which one fits you best. I tried all the melee professions and Pikeman just felt right.
All my opinion, anyway. Good luck with your decision.

Before you drop swords i suggest hunting nightsisters until you loot a few 700+ lvas. Like the other guy said you wont be effective against elders as a pikeman but all the rest of them you can just plow through. I use an 875 max lva and can tear multiple protectors to shreds in no time at all, however medic 2040 is nessecary too.

i was thinking about going master pikeman on one of my toons with my 1008 damage LVA. how long does it take to usually take out nightsisters and how much damage a hit. also i was thinking about bh 3xxx/master pike anyone try this yet and can i tear jedi a new one?

For your question about the 3xxx BH/Master Pikeman. Yes it has been done, there is one well known bh on Sunrunner who does that. He's very successful with killing jedi with that template.

yes, go loot some awesome pikes with swordsman before you switch. . .all the AA's/CA's in the world wont help more than a good LVA

I can think of 2 BH/pikemen on sunrunner that rip jedis apart. Morrimoto and nivan.

The highest-damage LVA I've ever used was my best crafted one with 503-max. This one can Hit3 for between 3000-5000 at times on Nightsister, and I've even seen over 6k on a few occasions. I cannot comment on what a 1008-max one might do but it must be pretty godly. As for Jedi, Pikeman is supposedly a great profession for taking them out.. speed-cap, KD one, then spam Area2. They can't heal the dizzy since its constantly reapplied nearly every second and will either die or drain their force trying to heal it.

I have +31 in accuracy tapes and +30 in speed tapes
I do ok

there is actually no cap to accuracy...
but back to the PvE part... I myself am a Master Pike, Master Swords, Master Brawler (PIKES: +27 speed, +39 accuracy)... I find that I can tank just about everything with my pikes, but the elders I have to use my Power Hammer... but even with pikeman, I can throw on a few dots to make it go alittle faster...

There actually is a soft cap on accuracy for skill tapes and that is +25. Now if you use foods and stims you can get it higher but having +100 speed with CA's and AA's you have just wasted +75.
I personally would drop TKM and keep sword. Reason being is that Sword gives you more damage type you can do. (blast damage) where as tkm you only have kinetic which you also have with the lva in pikeman.
How fast can you take out a NS depends on the NS. Spellweavers and below at most is 5 minutes if I have 4 or 5 on me with just a regular player crafted LVA. If I use a 1k LVA then you could probably smoke them in a couple minutes. As for Elders and Arch Witches you need a energy lance and get ready for a long fight.
