Thread: How well does the area knockdown work in PvP?

As some of you may know, I am also a master Rifleman. One of our shots, /flurryshot2, does an area dizzy. I was wondering if I could follow that up with the area knockdown with my pike? But, if the area knockdown doesn't work, I am susseptable to taking a big time thumping.

I was wondering what the success rate is for all of you guys in PvP?

I have yet to see one of my area KDs have any effect against groups in PvP. Problem is, people tend not to be close to anyone in PvP unless of course they're forced to

We also have 2 area dizzy's. The problem is that the occasion to use it is rare and you put yourself in considerable danger getting into a position surrounded by other players to use it. Against people with large melee, d vs kd, or counterattack/dodge stats, you'll just miss. There is nothing wrong with any of our specials as far as working or not working. They all do what they're supposed to, it's just that area KD in pvp rarely happens, much less having enough time to do an area dizzy + area KD before you die or they run off. You can always apply the dizzy after the KD, but most people stand up very quickly when KD'ed.

The new defense vs. KD food stops it as well.

Area KD works just fine for me. Fighting as a pikeman, you have to think a little differently though... you don't want to be at 60m fighting in large, open spaces. I fight alot at the imp outpost on dantooine... inside the base, there isn't much opportunity for people to get very far away from your pike. Sometimes you'll get a small group of 4-5 close enough to hit them all... it's great to watch them all fly on their backs, especially when you're hitting them with dizzy too.

I've had some good success with our area dizzy and KD moves. It doesn't get much better then finding two TKM's who laugh when they see a master pike, and then a second later have both of them on their backs flopping like a fish out of water

I guess most imperials see an Overt rebel master pike as easy FP. I've taught a few that's not always the case.

I hit every Imp in that cantina with my area moves and all except one died, of course the only reason they died was thanks to my mind fire...

Area knockdown works great in buildings in pvp. My best experiance was in anchorhead...3 overts standing around me waiting for me to declare. So I did. hehe Knocked them all down in one hit then lit them up with my fire dot lance.

Question: what determines your success at landing a knockdown? At master, I find it very hard to score a successful knockdown on a wide variety of creatures. It is accuracy, damage, or the other's resistance to knockdown that determines whether your target kisses turf when you swing for his legs?

The reason I ask is if it happens to be one of the first two, I was wondering if picking up a few skill attachments would improve my average.

The higher level the mob, the harder it is to KD. A few really high level things I have never been able to kd, with pike or with carbine.

I think there is only 1 situation that you will be able to use this move and that is if the opposing faction is inside a player's base and they all have TEFs or are overt and you can target them. If they are all in there just walk in the middle of them and KD them all while a master commando uses flame cone 2 as well as a combat medic uses his poisons or diseases. Think thats the best way to take out enemies inside your own faction base. Pikeman KDs all, commando burns all, combat medic poisons all....hey what do you know pikeman is needed, lol.

I've used this move when i've been taking a beating from two melee professions at the same time. It worked quite well.
