Thread: Just an idea for making pikeman proud to wield a pike

I've mastered all the melee classes, and pikeman is my favourite on looks/style alone, although its possibly the most flawed, we've covered the flaws in hundreds of other posts so i wont go into them!!!

I was thinking though, as a real quick fix to all the pikeman whinges, swap the LVA and vibro lance certifications over... and make the LVA Heavy armour piercing....

It ramps up our combat effectiveness... especially for pvp.... and justifies our failings... riflemen have heavy AP... i dont see why a melee profession couldnt have access to that sort of power.

Surely the bad range mods and poor defences can be overlooked in favourof producing a serious amount of pain dealing potential at master pikeman...even unstacked!

Just my 2 cents.. .feel free to shoot me down....

Well, I'm already proud to wield a pike .

Not that i'd say no to heavy AP, but I'd rather have mediumap electricity damage, to bring pike to closer parity with swords.

What I would like to see, is my characterholding his weaponwith the blade of his LVA pointed at the sky instead of straight ahead, when standing still for more than a few seconds. A ribbon or penant is too much to ask for art wise, I'm sure, but screenies of Pikemen, standing on cliffsides at dust in exotic locations (maybe over a fresh kill)sounds like a nice desktop wallpaper to me =)

While I'm not quite yet a pikeman, I did try it out with master brawler on TC-Ahazi, and I do agree that pikeman needs a heavyAP kinetic weapon, or medium AP electricity weapons. The only thing about giving out a heavy AP weapon is when an individualcaps speedfor all the specials (not sure what the magic number for pikeman is), there's potential for over-balance.

A riflemanwith+97 speed and a 550 max T21 may be devastating to low-medium mob level content, they are unable to solo high end content not nearly as efficiently with the advent of random bleeds (causes aggro while conceal shooting). Melee combat as a rifleman, as many know, is perilous at best. IfLVA's were givinheavy AP, speed capped MSwordsman/MPikesmen/MBrawlers with FS Melee Speed and/or SEA's would probably dominate the content in this game.

Now I know this is the Pikesman forums, and if this forum holds true to the other combat forums, discussion will revolve around the profession in and of itself. However, you must be realistic and realize that players (and I'm sure most of you here do this) take on other professions in a template.

While I'm not saying I'm right or wrong, and please don't get the impression that I'm someone who hasn't done pikesman yet andis coming into your forums and preaching to you about game mechanics, my statement is just a theory, and be careful what you wish for. If LVA's got heavy AP, again, I wouldn't complain and I agree that in the end a heavier polearm is needed, butI would do what alot of people would probablydo: make it part of my template, and thus pikeman makes its entry into FOTM (I don't count people who dabble novice for DOT VL's).

I support the Heavy Armor Peircing. After all, we can have the title of "Heavy Cleaver". How is it then, that a swordsman can deal more damage witha Power Hammer than a Pikeman with an LVA?

If they take away our DOTs, then what does that leave us with? Innacruate and slow weapons that aren't really any better than the Swordsman stuff. When they nerf the DOTs, they should give us the Heavy AP or atleast a damage increase in crafted pikes.

Hehe, this is true. I did some more research on skills and trees and noticed that.

Swordsman can be innaccurate and slow as well, just that Swordsman has blast damage. Logically the powerhammer is a polearm anyways, what happened there?

If you look at the defenses of Pikeman, it's pretty clear that the Devs intended Pikeman to be the heavy-hitter of the melee class. How else do you explain our woeful toughness?

IMHO, the LVA should be AP3 and the VL should be AP2.

The melee classes should look like this:

Fencer -

Highest toughness, speed, accuracy.

AR0 - AR1

Swordsman -

Mid toughness, speed, accuracy

AR0 - AR2

Pikeman -

Lowest toughness, speed, accuracy

AR0 - AR3
