Thread: Weapon Damage: what do the 'details' on that pointed stick in the bazaar mean?

I'm too impatient, and have spent credits for crap it seems. I'd like to take this opportunity to get some input on polearm type weaps, and what the stats we see in the bizaar tell us about that shiny new pointed stick listed in the bazaar:

eg, wood staff:

condition 991/1100 ..ok, durability ...i've read the rate at which weapons deteriorate has changes since beta, and this may impact crafters a great deal...a factor in the future, or does a bigger critter do more dmg to our pointed stick?

volume 1 ..ok, think i got this one

damage: 24-56 ..ok, basic damage range without special moves?

wound chance: 3.0 ..is this a percentage chance to do wound dmg, ie 3/100 ? If so, why would i care? Wounds are a pain in the butt to us, but when we are trying to impale swg_critter_01, why would/should i care about wound dmg? Does wound dmg do extra dmg at the exact time of the health/action dmg?

ideal range: 3.0 ..ok, our best spot to be in is 3.0 m (ooohhhhh, metric) from this critter. Uhm, us melee types can't back up tho..we turn and run..just like them pansy range types shooting over their shoulders (how freakin lame is that...you ever see Hans Solo actually hit something as he ran down them hallways screaming like a little girl ??? .....errr...ahem, but i digress).

max range: 5.0 ..ok, the max range at which i can hit the critter with my pointed stick...but, for us, shouldn't this be a 'lunge range'...the max distance we can lunge our pointed stick and hit critter_x ? ie, we get to 'lunge range', smack critter_x, then move in to do the gonna_break_your_legs_now move range? Just seems to be made for blaster users, and not changed for melee types. My first thought was there should be lunge and max, but again, since we can't 'back up' ...there is no point, critter_x will always close to whatever distance it decides...and since we can't hit jack while moving....

range attack mods: 14/14/14 ..ok, better pointed sticks have lower numbers than this...err, i think. ?

attack speed: 5.8 ..ok, lower the speed, the faster i swing/thust my pointed stick

special move health cost: 19

special move action cost: 49

special move mind cost: 19 ... ok, the 3 above stats are saying it costs us points to health/action/mind to do our special moves. Ok, the lower the better Hmm..dunno if i agree on there being a health cost, action, for sure...it's gonna take stamina and thought/mind to do the move..but health...not so sure on that one.

For a comparison, the reinforced staff i'm using now:

dmg: 45-95

wound chance: 7.0

ideal range: 3.0

max range:5.0

range attack mods 7/7/7

attack speed: 5.6

spec move cost 19/37/14 (health/action/mind).

*power-ups left*: 65 ..ok, i can't seem to see a description of what the power-ups do. It obviously increases the dmg the stick does...BUT, i have a distinct feeling i'm getting hosed here, ie, power-ups go to zero, suddenly that 45-95 dmg goes back down to 28-59 or whatever a NORMAL reinforced staff would have. There does not seem to be any indication in the Bazaar desc about this?

Sorry, the post is getting so long, but i hope we can get good info here so YOU don't get spend good credits after bad.

Last bit..i gotta tip on a weaponsmith who made melee weaps, and he told me he makes the following pointed stick:

48-103 5.6 RAMS10 RF Staff (un-powered)

Ok, 48-103 dmg without the power-up stuff running out, 5.6 speed ...perhaps wound chance 10.0 ??, btw, the cost of this staff was very high (relative to reinforced staff, cost of armor etc), apparently due to the chances that he could successfully make one out of alot of tries.

*whew*...fingers cramped....anyways, just hoping we can get a good thread going on what makes a good polearm/pike, so we can shop wisely in the bazaar and tell friends, PA members on what kinda things we are looking for in tha uber pointed stick.

Uh, that isn't a shiney new stick. A new one would have condition 1100/1100.

volume 1 ..ok, think i got this one

Pretty much, yup.

wound chance: 3.0 ..is this a percentage chance to do wound dmg, ie 3/100 ? If so, why would i care? I think this is more for PvP, I haven't notice wounds doing anything to creatures. Only on other PCs, or NPC people.

Hehe, nice analagy. Yah, thats right.

I don't know, its hard to test it out, but I think that you have an ideal range (from which you probably do more damage) and a max range, which you CAN hit, but you won't have as much damage as you would have had you been in ideal range.

range attack mods: 14/14/14 ..ok, better pointed sticks have lower numbers than this...err, i think. ?

No, I believe that those give your stick a higher attack at different ranges. For Melee weapons, the numbers are all the same, because there is only one range you can hit: close. So, actually, if you were doing 42 damage with your stick, this would be added, giving you a total damage of 56 for that hit.

attack speed: 5.8 ..ok, lower the speed, the faster i swing/thust my pointed stick

Yep.

special move health cost: 19

special move action cost: 49

special move mind cost: 19 ... ok, the 3 above stats are saying it costs us points to health/action/mind to do our special moves. It doesn't really make sense, no, but its there.

No, no, no. A power up as something that crafters make seperate, and attach to the item, giving it a stat boost in some area, for 100 shots (or in the case of melee weapons, thrusts/swipes/swings/whatever). The only way to tell what that area is is to check the power up before applying it to the weapon. The only two kinds I have seen is one that increases range (Extending), or one that decreases the Action cost for special attacks (Lightening). The stick has high power because someone experimented on it when building it, and happened to end up with a very powerful attack range. I would guess that the power up you have is a Lightening generic melee weapon power up (lower Action cost), so when it expires, your action cost may be a bit higher. Probably by about 4-8.

Hahahahaha!! ! LMAO!

I don't know a lot about the different indicators, in fact, I'm in the same boat as you. So this post is helpful. I know we have help, etc., but this is more practical - what does it REALLY mean?

Thanks for the thread.

Also, I have a metal stick - any thoughts?

Update on that reinforced staff i was am currently using ... 45-95 dmg, and had power-ups. Well, the good news is that when the power-ups (started with 100) ran out, the staff has stayed at 45-95 dmg. I was worried that this value had reflected the power-up, but it doesn't.

The best staff I can make atm is a reinforced combat staff 49-106 4.3 speed. I have gotten to 80% experimentational damage so far. I have plenty of room to grow on it it as well. Im thinking it will max out around the 110 111 range.. We shall see.

A wookie can hit for 170-190 regular, anywhere from 100-372 with special and can berserk for 500 + using Advanced polearm and my *previous* iteration. which had a max damage of 98. He hasn't had a chance to field test my latest creation so I am seriously looking forward to those results.

Results may differ depending on race and/or stats. I just sold one to a human and will get his feedback soon. Too be honest I haven't found too many pikemen to sell too. Its a shame because one of my goals is to make the very best sticks around. Where do you people hang out? (eclipse server specifically but any of you that choose to respond is good too.)

If I find a better wood resource then I have 20% more experimentational damage points to acquire.

Ahh the hunt for the best Artisan level staff continues...

if you are on the Eclipse server, send a tell to Syr.

I have also seen Balancing Mods in addition to the other two that were mentioned.

A necro is when you take a very old post (usually a month to a year old) and bump it to the top of the page. Not only is it obnoxious but it is against forum policy.
