Thread: SilverSurfer please read Scythe Certification in wrong place?
Silver, I was looking at wep certs and noticed something.
Under 2h sword master specialization in the brawler profession they have 2 certs listed: Cleaver and Scythe. While Polearm Master Specialization in the brawler line has no certs. The 1h sword master specialization has 1 wep cert. So I asked myself, why would 2h sword users recieve 2 master certs, 1h recieve 1 master cert and polearm recieve no master cert. Then it dawned on me, is it possible the "Scythe" is supposed to be the cert for polearm master specialization in the brawler profession? I know that there is no schematic in game for this weapon but just thought I'd ask.
Could you find out if the Scythe is supposed to be a polearm weapon, since logically a scythe is a curved blade on a pole it makes little sense that it would be used as a 2h sword since they are held like polearms. If this is the case can you also tell them that the schematic is missing for it in game? Or at least thats what I've been told by Weapon smiths.
I apologize if this has already been brought up.

I could go through the history of the scythe, but that is both uneventfull and long, so I will cut it short. The Devs decide on the weapons not me. So talk to them, and in case you haven't read the "New Message Sent to SOE!!!" thread, I suggest you do, because I am no longer occupying the correspondent role. I am just holding it till I hear back from SOE.... Though it looks like I have maintained the title... I may still be it yet.

According to encyclopedias around the world the Scythe is classified as a polearm. Never has it ever been classified as a sword. Now true, while this may be the real world application of a polearm it may very well not be the vision the dev's had in mind. I just found it curious that the 2h profession recieved 2 weapon certifications at master specialization while polearm recieved none. I felt that maybe it was simply a mistake (just like the long vibro axe cert being in the wrong place) and obviously considered it an issue by posting it here. Being that no one has seen a scythe yet because it is a quest item that has not yet been implemented it is hard to tell otherwise. Now if you had seen a 2h swordsman wielding a long vibro axe the same way 2h swords are held (boy would that look rediculous) would you have then considered it an issue? Why wait until things become unbalanced and swordsmen are wielding polearms instead of fixing a possible problem before it becomes a larger issue.
Not to put you down Silver, because I appreciate what you have done the short time you've been our correspondant. But has it never occurred to you that the correspondant IS our voice to the Dev's. That's the whole point of having a correspondant. So that the correspondant can take questions, concerns, issues and suggestions from the players of that class and present them to the developers so that the developers do not have to sift through thousands of emails from players. Not to mention the fact that any issues coming straight from the correspondant would have more weight and probably be resolved sooner then those contained in 1 in a thousand emails from players.
Or am I mistaken as to what your role as correspondant was supposed to be? Hell make me correspondant, I'd wait until all issues I could see were resolved before stepping down.
Personally I think your stepping down too soon, anyone holding the position of correspondant for an entire profession that is played by hundreds or even thousands should hold the position for (imo) at least 6 months.
My intention was not to insult you or any other correspondant Silver. I only just recently read that SOE intended correspondants to rotate month by month. Though it would seem they have not had the time (which is understandable) to introduce a rotation system of some sort. Nor did I mean to imply that I would resolve all issues with the class or the game. Simply that if I were in the position I would remain correspondant until recieving the letter releasing me of the position (as you should).
It may be a while yet before you are released from the position Silver. Until then I would suggest you remain our correspondant until you hear back from SOE. Telling players you cannot pass along anymore issues or concerns because you have released yourself from the position is not very fair to all those playing the class. Who knows how long it will take them to respond to your release request, it could be another month. Are we to operate without a correspondant until then because you are unwilling to go on for a little while longer?
I do understand you may need to give them a little kick in the butt to get a new correspondant but could you wait until we actually have a replacement before stepping down completely? There are still new issues, concerns, suggestions arising and we need "someone" who can pass them along to the developers.
I dissagree. If one holds the rank of correspondent for too long, they lose sight of what is being said on the boards. I am stepping down to allow others to bring their own style to the job.
If you read my letters from SOE thread, you would have seen that I am only allowed 5 topics to write about and one personal note. I have never used the personal note for myself, thought I have chose an item that was not particularily a bug or a concern, such as more weapons and the "jousting" idea.
On a side note, if you had read the last message sent to SOE, then you would know that I chose to step down at the moment of reporting the bugs and it was never my intention to be the correspondentafter I wrote the letter. I assumed it would have been read and I would have been released from this role, though it seems that the messages are read only when they are going to be answered.
There will always be a bug, concern, or suggested path for the future of the profession. A correspondent's work is never done, nor will it ever be. When the new expansion pack comes out, there will be bugs, problems, etc. And the DEVs have tried their best but no one is perfect. To only recieve messages from one person is too onesided. I believe that is why this position was intended to be a one month rotation. I was lucky to have held it for two months and I feel that I have made a difference on this board.
If they choose you as the next correspondent, then I say /chear. But don't try to say that all the issues of the game will be resolved when you step down. That is an insult to every correspondent. As the correspondent I have read every post on this forum, good or bad. I have given every one of them equal consideration and (I believe) I have been unbias in my letters, choosing the most talked about, and quoting players, both for and against changing something. I have lost countless hours of gameplay toread these boards, and have read a total of 18,992 messages on the forums. I have looked at the other brawler boards, the server boards, the marksmen boards, reading all that has dealt with the pikeman class, to get a better picture of what others think about us. I have spentFifty-one hours andfour minutres as of now, logged in to the forums. That is two days, three hours and four minutes. That is two whole days of gameplay that i have lost because of this job, with the only reward is knowing that I have made a difference here.
Iwas/am honored to be picked by SOE out ofhundereds (maybe thousands) of applicants for this role. Though I have spent all this time on the boards, I have never tried to put anyone down, except for RomeoIsDead (sorry, but I still dissagree that we are the worst PvP proffesion, hehe), and now.
I was hoping ot end this without any bad feelings on the board, and wanted to just phase out, but it seems that can not be avoided. To all I wish you get a better correspondent who makes no mistakes... then I would like to meet him,![]()
Khrim...
wow... after reading silversurfer's last post there... i'd have to completely agree with him... the only aspect i agreed with on arudius1's part was the lack of voice about this particular issue, which was cleared up immediately by redefinition of surfer's abilities...
i, for one, applaud the surfer's work, as he does a much better job on the boards than many other correspondants...
