Pikeman Archive
Thread: Need the final bit of information here...
Hiya!
I was, back in the day,a Pikeman... but ended up rotating around the professions like a fiend, including TKA, Fencer, Rifle, Carbine... including a few trips back to TKA and Pike...
Ultimately, no matter what, I'm heading Master Ranger.
So- I had recently been pursing Master Pistol as you gain a massive to-hit bonus as a Ranger against creatures... but for some unfathomable reason, only at range. Thus I was forced into Pistol, as the best choice out of the three ranged weapons. But now I'm ok with surrendering the bonus-to-hit, I suppose... hopefully the developers will eventually take note of the illogic and fix it.
I'm working ontrying to figure out (finally) what my otherskills will be for me. So far, I enjoyed Pike alot- loved the animations...kind of hoping they have some great ones at the higher levels (I never even got to Novice Pike at any point).
The other day, I switched from Mastering Pistol, to just Novice Pistol and working towards Master CH. Well, my playstyle does not lend itself to doing what everyone else is doing- so, it makes me frown to see all of the CH's and such, despite it being a cool and relatively fun class, I can't stay as a CH. Especially after seeing the new polls listing it number 1. Hehe.
My ultimate question is this-I have room to master Pike, for instance, and 18 points left over. Is it true that I MUST have medic to really get anywhere? If so, will it be enough that I'll only be able to go 0/0/0/1 medic?
Also, how badly will I be hurting myself by switching to Pike- considering I strongly prefer to solo PvE 99 percent of the time... Are there AoE attacks or other life-savers (like stacking Bleed 2/Bleed 1 as a pistoleer) that will save your bacon in combat often?
I don't mind difficult, and I completely ignore slow XP, etc. So, even if it takes me 10 times as long I'm fine with that- as long as I can pull off Master Ranger/Master Pike/Something Else ...
Any last advice before I start surrendering skills and kicking my 8k ham Sludge Panther into the wild?
Thanks!

In my experience, yes you need medic to survive in solo PvE as any melee type..
My final build is similar, master brawler, master pike, novice artisan, domestic artrs IV, master chef - leaving 18 points left over, which will most likely go into novice medic.
