hey I am a TKA / Rifleman...

I am getting really borded with rifles, and heard that Pikeman was a royal pain.

But the other night I saw a Master Pikeman killing everything in sight at the geocaves.

Been hanging around in this board for a few days and I see a lot of people complain about Pikeman.

Is it really that bad?

The grind to TKA Novince was long and hard, but well worth it - I am hoping Nov Pikeman is the same?

Thanks in advance

Pikeman rocks. seriously.

It's got it's problems (extremely low defenses, toughness etc) but with TKA you may not notice them as much. Accuracy is not nearly as bad thanks to the negative modifiers on our weapons being adjusted and since you are TKA you already do fine in PvP.

Pikeman is the ultimate PvE combat profession IMO.

Go for it man.

No pikeman uses block so that what you will do when you have a pike equiped. So dodge modifiers will not have any effect. My guess is that unarmed toughness only works when you are unarmed.

I am a Master Pikeman, and love it vs NPCs.....seriously, against NPCs (not meaning creatures), the area stun/dizzy, then hit area knockdown, you can pretty much beat up anything.....I really didn't need defenses going up this tree. HOWEVER, I am now going up the TK line, and after that, most likely fencer, since we have VERY limited defenses, and it is therefore awful in PVP. I am also buying as many speed/accuracy SEAs as I can. We do miss a lot, and I am hoping that adding +25 in each of those will help me out......

You have to ask yourself what are you going to use in combat.

If you are still going to use your TK skills, there is really no need to pick up Pikeman since TK is a quicker, more accurate profession. But, if you use Pikeman, then keep some TK and some Rifleman (defenses and meditate of TK and some ranged skill to avoid kiting).

My template when finished will be Master Pikeman, Master Rifleman, 4004 TK, and either 1000 medic or 1000 scout (not sure which). Hopefully it will work.

Unarmed toughness does not work. Once you equip a pike you switch to your pike toughness (which is much lower)

Thanks guys.

Just thinking of dumping rifle for another melee class.

Pikeman seems kinda like TKA - hard at first but then very very rewarding once you learn the class.

Right now I am debating between Pikman or Swordsman.

Both interest me a lot, but I know very little about both classes.

One interesting side note -

I seem to miss alot with my combat staff - IE - I am still only at polearms 3 (I did master brawler at one point but dropped it the next day) but with two handed weapons I rip things apart very very fast.

Welcome to pikeman man. Accuracy stinks for a long time.

To be honest since you are already master TKA swordsman may be the thing toyou. Swordsman has no knockdown (apart from master brawler) so the knockdown from TKA could compliment it.

IMO the melee professions that balance each other are TKA/swordsman and fencer/pikeman.

The blast hammer is a great weapon and many high end mobs have more blast vunerabilities than kinetic/electricity.

Also don't forget. Most swords in the game are AP2 while we only have the LVA.

Pikeman still rocks though. It's got so much style.
