Thread: what to go with rifleman?

hi i need help with the combo that i want. i want to be a rifleman with a melee class. im not sure which melee class to have swords/pike/ or fencer. i want to master one of these classes aswell as master rifleman. i want to be good in both pvp and pve but if i cant be both id rather be pvp. please could you advise me on what to do. any help is appreciated. i dont realy want to be tk because they are far to common and i like using a weapon.
i know, so we'll have to arrange to meet in game at a suitable time. Sorry

Mayesy,
A lot of folks are rifleman/tk since those are two professions that are really working well right now. After that, I would think that swordsman is nice because it allows you to continue concentrating on the mind pool that you started to work over with a rifle. Fencer would give great defenses. The advantage of pike would be the area state change attacks.
I hope that sheds some light on your decision.

Im 2024 Rifleman, Master Swordsman, Master Pikeman, and it has been workin well for me.

thanks alot for the replies. i think drewin has a point with swordsman. i can shoot their mind until they get close and then carry on targeting their mind when there right next to me. i think this would be a good combo. thanks alot for your advice its really helped. one last thing what should i spend the remaining points on?

I don't know how many skill points you have left over, but here are the two main choices folks have...
1. Scout with exploration so that you get terrain negotiation and can harvest and sell meat/hide/bones.
2. Medic so that you can buy and use stims.
You will probably only get one or two levels in this skill, so it isn't hard to switch back and forth as required.

Just to play devil's advocate here,
If you go Rifleman/Swordsman, you will have almost no range and melee defenses.
Just food for thought.

Actually, riflemen have more melee/ranged defenses than we do. They have the 3rd most melee defense (behind fencer and tka) and 2nd most ranged defense (behind fencer) of all classes if I remember correctly.

Actually I think pistoleer also gets 10 more melee defense then rifleman, but Rifleman should get no melee defense in my opinion. Rifleman now have some kind of to-hit modifier applied to us, so a melee player will hit a rifle-user much more often. I've found that with this modifier, even if I have 125 melee defense (yes, I do) that I will still get hit almost every time while holding a rifle. So right now the Rifle melee defense only helps somebody who uses it to stack with a different profession.
