Thread: When does the LVA become usable?
Anyway, I bought an LVA as soon as I got certed for it but quickly put it away when I noticed that I missed about 80% of my swings. I trained novice pikeman and then went to 0-0-0-2 (I had a lot of combat xp banked). I saw that I had a +100 to polearm accuracy and though that LVA might be usable. I tried it out and I'm still stuck with a -50 to-hit. My LVA has -54 modifiers at all ranges but I thought the +100 would mitigate this somewhat.
At what point, if ever, does this weapon become really usable? or will I forever be stuck using a lance or a VL?

Mine became very useable at 0-0-0-2. My pike had -50 mods though instead of -54. Of course I had an extra +5 accuracy from master brawler and that helped too.
Here's what you need to do.
On the server you play on make a plea to the weaponsmiths. Have them dump some of their experimentation points into accuracy and range mods. HAM is already so high a few more points won't matter. You already need to be buffed 24/7 to do anything with pikeman anyway. A good weaponsmith should be able to make a pike with -44ish range mods and the same speed and damage as a "normal" LVA. Get one of those and you should have no trouble hitting things. The pikeman on intrepid made enough fuss that all the weaponsmiths are starting to make lances with the improved mods. It's quickly becoming the new standard.
Heck I was goofing off the other day with a lance made with thos mods and I'm down to polearms IV from brawler and I was connecting plenty.
I was stubborn and used the LVA at Novice, accuracy be damned. Realistically though, unless the creature has medium armor or high electricity resists, use the Vibro Lance until */*/*/4.
