But....

People say pike is the worst profession and it probably is, however, that can be negated with Master Brawler AND we get some nice weapons.

I am talking about those polearms with poison, disease and fire dots. I dont see swordsmen or fencers with them (actually, I have seen one sword with a fire dot). I think those weapons alone make us formidable. With my template and those dots i have yet to lose a fight, (unless 5 rebels are around me spaming flame cone 2, which is how I usually die.) That said I also have to spend ALL of my skill points to become slightly better than a plain vanilla TKM but those weapons make a big difference. In fact today over half my PvP kills were mind incaps. The process is long but it works.

the whole point is that we shouldnt have to have those special weapons just to be a viable part in PvP, we should be able to rely on just ourselves, and not some god weapon that most of us cant get anyways. As well, what if a pikeman doesnt want to go master brawler? I for one am a doctor so i dont have to skill points to waste on that...anyways, point is, we should be a viable class without anything special...

Now on to your comment. Yes, you are exactly right. I believe I capialized ALL to try and stress that this is silly that I have to do all these professions and use uncomon weapons to acheive some equality. Also, if a TKM or Fencer did the same template switching out the master professions, I would get spanked.

Having said all that the profession is broke but it can be worked IF and i stress IF you are willing to forgo playing any other profession.

Don't be lulled into complacency by the reliability we have in looting polearms. It's a trick to keep us happy and not complaining about our issues! Don't give in!

I wont, because the guy i run with in the mornings is a dedicated melee type to but uses swords. He wants to go to the Tuskan Fort now to get one-handed swords with the same dots. I thought we as pikemen were the only ones. Oh well.

I have a VL with action poison, a LVA with mind poison, a Reinforced staff with mind fire and of course I can stack my two action bleeds plus the two health bleeds from Fencer and i have a health poison dot on a stone knife. That is a lot of dots and when i connect them there is a an out line of a rebel. lol

actually, most of my kills have been due to mind incaps, wierd for a pikeman.

I looted a Nyax Sword with poison I'm sure there are special loot weapons for every class!

I know all the ranged professions get special weapons. The only unique thing about pike I think is the night sister schematics.

Still, you're talking about you using elite weapons and master brawler (which is attainable by anyone so doesn't really negate the problems in pike just helps you get past them). Few people bother to get such fine weapons, but pit yourself against any other melee with the same quality weapons and master brawler and see if your weapons and brawler "negate" the downsides of pikeman.

The main problem I see so far is this:

Accuracy penalties are not compensated

Sure a big heavy axe on the end of a pole is alot harder to hit the mark with. But you have to understand WHY its harder to hit the mark. Because of the leverage/torque makes it a much harder weapon to weild. The dmg output and AP on current pikes just does not fall into line with what they should be. VL and/or LVA should be heavy AP to start with.

Second, the raw DPS on these weapons should be higher than raw dps on any other melee prof. This is balanced by the accuracy penalties. Simple as that. There's no good reason for the dps on these to be worse than fencer while the accuracy is worse too.
