What I find pitiful is the fact that almost every strategy on this forum that I find requires pets. I mean, pets are great, but why aren't we strong enough to do stuff like this? I and a bh managed to do Garm Bel Iblis' last mission (the one with the dark troopers... I was out holo hunting) without pets. And of course, the part I played was heal him, and maybe knock them down if they got too close. He would bleed them and set them on fire. Also, we would pull them out one at a time (the best that we could). I doubt I would have been able to take one of them alone without extensive use of stims and pets. I never planned on being a ch; I never wanted to be a ch. I wanted to master brawler and maybe dabble in tka and fencer. Why is being a ch a requisite of being a pikeman?

Because I have around 1000 ham, most decent creatures have about 8000-10000 ham. Even if I'm doing 1000 points dammage (this is with specials) its still going to take me 8 or more hits (assuming I hit every time). Most creatures do 150-200 damage per hit and my specials cost me about 100 ham per attack. So eithor I have a pet to soak up some of that dammage or I'm going to drop. amd chances are there are more then one enemy creatures, os if the first one dosen't get me the second will. this is how the game is set up Bad guy Ham keeps going up player ham stays the same. Armor only helps a little. So something has to take the dammage.

Thoguh when the new AI goes into full effect this will all change. High level mobs will be undoable. Baddies will attack you first and ignore your pets.
