Thread: Effective Strategy needed for Pikeman against Stormtroopers

Can anyone tell me a good way to fight Stormtroopers, I find fighting them an excersize in frustration...they run WAY too much and WAY too far. When I was a Master Carbineer I could at least target them with a Knockdown shot, but as a Pikeman I need to get close to use any of my KD's. My pets seem to just drive them away and I hate fighting mobs that run this much

Thanks,

Jharm

If a target like that runs, don't follow, have your pets come back. Attack a different target or walk a little ways away, they will come back or stay out of range most of the time. That way you can draw them back or at least have another shot at them. This usually works for me.

I have encountered this same problem fighting rebel NPCs. There's not good solution. It seems impossible to knock something down while on the run. Here's what I do to deal with runners (hint: all of these solutions are non-pikeman specific. There's no good pikeman way to take care of this other than to hope they stop running for a second so you can, maybe, get a KD off. Which maybe lands. And maybe succeeds):

1) Use faction pets against them since they're ranged too.

2) Put CH pets on them and let them run off into the sunset together. Hopefully you can find the corpse (and the pet) afterwards (obviously, this tactic only works if your pets are strong enough to solo the target).

3) Have ranged weapons ready as a backup. (I have marksman pistol 4 so I can pelt away at the damned things with a FWG5).

4) Bleed 'm. Not a complete solution, but it helps speed things a smidge.

5) For stop & start type runners, use autofollow to make things easier (warning: autofollow wont get you in melee range EVER so long as they're still moving. Only when they stop for a moment will you get in range with autofollow. I only recommend using this if you are using a ranged weapon as backup).

Im a fencer but this may help (If you have an at-st or some other high level pet). Send your pet at the base and make it draw all the fire. While the pet is being shot quickly rush in and own all the NPC's.

Forget the pets. Just run up to the first one, warcry, spin2, sweep, actionhit2, laugh, run to the next one, spin2, sweep, actionhit2, laugh, run to the next one, spin2, sweep, actionhit2,and laughwhile they all bleed to death and twitch on the ground. They don't usually start kiting until you get 2-3 hits in unless they are scout troopers.

Another option is to just run around to all thestormtroopers and bleed them then hide behind trees until they all die. I used to do this before dizzy/knockdown was so overpowered.

posture change, they tend to not get back up unless they switch to melee, then they dont run.

For ST's, I send in a pet. Usually the wussy ST starts running, so I call the pet back...the ST will stop and start shooting at the pet allowing me to casually walk up and KD. This is usually the case.

I haven't had problems with ST yet. Usually stun 2, sweep 1, then polearm hit 2, then a few non special attacks and they are done.

Here's how I fight stormtroopers:

First.. Go Overt. It will help. Trust me.

Then, type /peace.

Next, get about 40 m away from the closest trooper (try to pick one relative alone..). He should do the "?", if not, try moving a little closer, until he aggro's you.

Next, RUN away.. He may get one or two hits on you, but you should survive.. Only the one trooper will follow you.

Once you get about 90m, wait for him to catch up, so he's out of range of his friends to help. Once he's about 70m away start running toward him. Most likely, he will even kneel or go prone.. you can just run up to them and start whacking away, or dizzy/kd, or warcry, or just polearmhit3.

This works *Very* well for me, as is quite quick once you get the hang of it. Best part? No Kiting. T
