I am wondering if mastering pike is really any different than mastering 2-H Swordsman. I am finally after a month of debate going to master pike (its a holo thing). What Im wondering is if there are any other Heavy Swords that have gone to pikeman? If so can they offer me any tips as to this profession and its ups and downs and what they found as an effective way to level this class. Im a master CH and a 4,1,4,0, Medic so I cant see this class really being any different in the way I level as I did with 2-handed. But any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I was a former Master Swordsman and I am now 2 boxes away from Master Pikeman. From what I have seen, Ham cost are near the same but less dmg. As for leveling I found taking Piket/Voritor missions on Dantooine to help a whole lot.

well, you got a pet to tank for you and you got medic to heal. I'd say you're set to start grinding. First, you don't want to use the LVA until you reach some skills in accuracy and speed, so hang on to your VL until you get there. HAM costs are insane, so try gettin sunburns, ryshcates and spices to help you with those.

Start climbing the stances tree to gain speed, and once you got it to stances4, drop the VL for a LVA. Then start on your defensive moves and finally the areattack tree. Once you reach masterpikeman I would suggest doing some hunting before dropping it(I assume you ll drop it, since it's a holo "thing"), because with the actionbleed and leghit3, you're now able to take down some really mean mobs. Also the CoB is so long now, you are pretty much 100% protected against and kind of mod attacks.

Finally, once you get your speed(stances) you should start hunting in groups. You ll hug more expe and get the group bonus to experience too.

good luck!

Well it did take me a month after receiving my holo to drop Swordsman. So who knows I may like Pike, Luckily Ive banked enough combat xp that I should be able to burn up the 4th tree in not time. I think (havent done the math) that I should be able to get the first 3 bars which will give me action bleed 1 and 2. BTW if no one knows you cap at 300k combat xp.
