Thread: Was Pike actually uber in Beta and nerfed after live?
Someone in my PA told me that ppl complained so much about Pikemen that they got the big nerf stick and have sux ever since. Is this true and what was so horribly wrong with pike back then? This apparently happened right after the game went live. I think he said all those flavor of the month ppl left pike and picked up TKM.
Anyone know the story on this?
Basically, we were so strong then because of the knockdowns. Basically, if someone got knocked down, they were staying down long enough to finish it. What possibly made this unbalanced was the fact that you could do it in a pretty big radius as an area attack. So a Sweep, Spin, Spin combo was enough to take out a whole crowd of bunched up people.
Most states come in 3 levels: Light, Medium, Heavy. Our original KD was a heavy-grade knockdown - there was a ten-second or so delay before you could get back on your feet. Our current KD is a Medium Knockdown - the delay is maybe a second or two, and we're not able to get off a second swing reliably in that time until we near Master. Knockdown Light is like the Carbineer Chargeshot skill, where they can get up instantly and the only delay is the animation time.
We also did a little more damage, with higher special damage multipliers, but basically that's nowhere near to being as important as the knockdown change...

The first was the general population nerf. Yeah, no dodging that one.
The second was the change to the strength of the KD. We went from something on the order of the old BH Fire Knockdown to being about on par with BH Underhand Shot.
And there was a major damage drop - I knew guys who could kill entire rooms of people using a Sweep and two Spins, no problem.
what would be perfect is all classes have strengths and weaknesses and are all the same uberness, i think the devs might be trying to do this but for now we'll just have to deal with the flavor of the months

That would be me. Man did I ever love that kd. The reason I started posting on these forums was because of that nerf. I was so pissed, I actually thought about quitting. I wasn't good enough yet to do well with my other moves.
I actually got sweep 2 about 3 days before the nerf. I was 4032. I went out and found a herd of ronto, about 7 in all, and spammed sweep 2 against the bunch. Wow was that something. Then they nerfed it. ![]()
Oh well, life goes on.
But KD was not changed for us, it was changed because of every profession that had it. It wasn't a nerf targetted at us, it was a general game change.

Well you can become a swordsman, they seem to do insane damage. However, base on the dev's post we will be the damage dealers but the only proposed change they have is that we will actually attack slower. Does that mean the sword profession will not hit as hard? No, the post doesnt stat that. It doesNOT state that we will hit for greater damage either. So I dont see how this will work. Based on the dev's post it would appear swordsman will still hit harder than us and we will no hit much slower. I never took a logic class in college so maybe I am crazy but I dont see how we can be the major damage dealers if we are slow and hit for less damage. Again, I could be crazy,I know I am definitely frustrated.
