Thread: yet another pikeman idea

Thought about writing an introduction about myself, but i'll get right to the point. Was fighting 2 players in pvp the other day, and i was holding my ground pretty well at first. Sweeped and dizzied both of them, although doing good dmg (with my mind fire lance as well) once they got up my defenses couldn't hold em. Now the thing is one on one i could have probably won or atleast been a close match. My area offense was pretty damaging, but defenses sucked. Which we all know about pikeman, now i was thinking that on top of us getting more toughness (hopefully) i would like to see, if possible, some sort of multiple opponent toughness bonus. I'm not sure if this is possible (mostly from a programming aspect), but since we have many area offenses, why not defense.

It could be added into the defense line, be the most helpful at master.... and we could add seperate bonus's for 2,3, and 4+ opponents, or just a plain bonus for anything above 1 opponent. I believe it would help alot in pvp too, and it would make for a different type of tank. This idea seemed pretty good to me at first, but wondering if you people could let me know if you like it and mention the pro's and con's.

I really think it could help though, allowing us to be tanks for taking on many mobs at once, not to mention in pvp we could be used to hold back an attack. I mean, most people here agree that we should be the crowd controllers, this could essentially help us fullfill that role. Plus this would not take away the TK's ability to tank. Making them the best ones to tank a solo opponent, while we would be able to handle attacks by many.

I like the idea and the only trouble would be with exploiting it to obtin a higher defense when only truely fighting one oponent. And as far as implementing it being difficult I don't see how that would be as a programmer myself.

i appreciate the input, and as far as exploiting it goes, i thought about that being a problem. As far as preventing it completely, seems near impossible. But i don't think it would affect things on a large scale. Assuming you were thinking of the same thing i was, which was having a pet attack you or having your friend duel you and just try not to hurt you. It seems though that this would be not only an annoying task, but it could easily end up getting your friend/pet killed due to most of our attacks being area. I definately see where your coming from though, not sure if it would create a huge problem though considering it may be more harm then help.

I think its a awesome idea. I would say to help it from being abused make itvery strongat master compared to any another level and make it so that you must have a polearm that you are cert. with in your hand to make it work.

This probably fits in with the proposed dual pikeman. Offensive or defensive depending on weapon. Want to hold multiple opponents at bay? Equip a (insert name here). Want to smack some peeps around? Equip a (insert name here). This idea would prevent us from being all powerful, yet still usefull.

Been a while since i read that post, but i don't think it fit's in with it. To implement a toughness modifer for mutiple opponents into the defensive line instead of having it depend on the weopon gives us more options, like we can choose our dmg type without worrying about our defenses suffering. I remember liking the purposed "dual pikeman" idea, but i don't see this being implemeted in the combat balance (assuming they like it), not sure if we have any feedback on this. And not because the dev's don't like us or anything, but they seem to havea lot on their plate. Again thanks for the responses people, i hope to see more posts on this.
