Thread: Pikeman vs. Giant Dune Kimogila

I'm currently a master heavy swordsman. I've been capped on combat and 2-handed melee xp for a long time now, really want to try something else out. I enjoy the melee classes for PvE, and the only thing that is keeping me a MHS now is the need to solo GDK's to continue working on my RIS armor set.
How would a master pikeman stack up? GDK's are medium armor, 65% to kinetic and blast, so I was thinking an LVA would work just as well as a power hammer. The difference in /hit3 damage mods doesn't matter since I take these things down with a pool-specific attack and it looks like /headhit3 and /leghit3 have identical mods.
On paper, it seems both are equally capable. Is there something below the surface that would make a master pikeman incapable of soloing a GDK? Thanks in advance!

You'll take more damage fighting with a pike, but you should be able to solo it.

Awesome! It'll be great to try out something new. Now if I could just get someone to trade my 2-handed speed / accuracy / counterattack Ubese shirt and bandolier for sone polearm attachments I'd be in fat city...

pick up a nice 700-1200 damage LVA and the big ugly should go down fast 
i enjoy stacking 3-4 action poisons, bleeding and then spamming leghit 3 on anything bigger than 30k ham...
damn... now i want to go solo the bugger just to see if i can

Not everyone has access to a 700-1200 (?!!) LVA. We cannot rely on those loots, nor just recommend that someone just 'pick one up'. Yes, it might be possible to find one for sale, but you can't just find them at a regular vendor for 1M or less...

i should have said 700 max damage - 1200 max damage
i personaly looted a pair of 770ish max damage pike, one was speed sliced to 5.0, one damage sliced to 850... for some reason on tempest this puts me in the Ok pikeman category. the big 3 rival pikemen for me are all running around with 1,000+ damage pikes (pre slice) and a full 25 speed and accuracy from tapes...
i would **edit** about our reliance on loot drops... but as is, its kind of cool that there is such a noticable difrence among the top pikemen on our server.
as for intimidate2... i love and hate that move. love it when i use it, hate it when i get hit with it

Master doctor makes them quite easy, unless you're an idiot and run out of disease packs 30 seconds into the fight (like me).
On the positive side, you can really make an entertainer's day if you walk into a cantina with 1 point of mind and 1000 battle fatigue.

Ive done the mind damage thing, didnt get to 1000 BF, I only hit 649.
Im Master Pike/ Master Doc and got a full mind buff before I took one one. That, coupled with some nice BE brandy (+427 and 2 hits) and some Vagesmagin Creap (yeah, I cant spell it) that added another +780 to my secondarys I had a blast. As soon as it hit me with a disease, I slammed a pack on myself, pulled my crappy NS lance just to hit it back. And no, the 40 strength health tick did not help me.
The only thing that I hate about kimo's (and krayts for that matter) is that they RUN FAST. I have a pretty good connection, andI remember I lagged a little, tiny bit (like 2 seconds at a boundary) and the kimo was 120m away from me.
Other than that, it just took time. Done bother with posture changes and stuns because they rarely stick. I have an intimidate macro going that clears my combat que and hit them with intimidate.

I know that's what you meant. Not everyone has access to a 700 to 1200 dmg pike. I've had to spend a lot of money to get my high-damage pikes and I still have yet to loot or buy one with 1k+ damage, despite trying for months and months.

Personally i like Pikeman+gurk nest vs. Giant Dune Kimo. Those crazy monkeys can be a big help.
