I'm not quite sure what the primary compelling reason to pick up pike was, considering how the (few) pikeman I know explained how hindered the profession is, but I did it anyways.
As with past experience, in other professions, when you hit Master you get a significant boost in your abilities. I find the contrary with Pikeman. There is a lot of redundancy in the attacks, the defense tree is one of the weakest I've aquired, the two trees with nothing more than specials (see redundancy), block (counterattack?)only seeming to work when CoB is activated, accuracy mods on our weapons, our toughness (novice TK has almost as much as master pike!), and the speed. I could probably go on, but this highlights my observations.
The cool thing about pike is, hands down, the area attacks. Pike has it there. Area dizzy and stun are excellent, not to mention KD. I've thought about it, and a class which relies heavily on area attacks which don't do a lot of damage ought to be a tank right? There is the problem. Pikeman looks to be designed to be the guy with the MOBs swarming him while others in the group support him. We need more toughness, I think that is priority 1 with pikeman.

actually....
fencers have area blind and dizzy
swordsman have area dizzy/posture down and some other stuff
TKAs have 2 area attacks
fencers have like 4
Pikeman have like 6
and swordsman have more 7
All of the high end area attacks from other proffesions have status effects too.
As a matter of fact. SInce they have better accuracy, they stick more often too.
Good times....
good times....

I just mastered about two days ago and I was also disappointed at how I really didn't gain that much from 4002 to master... Ah well, it's a cool prof and I'm keeping it in hopes someday it will get some loving. =D

Of course TKA's are! That makes so much sence considering that you shouldnt be able to do an AOE with your fists! (or vk's for that matter)
