Thread: Should I go pikeman or fencer or swordsman?
The simple answer is fencer if you plan on PVP for the majority, or swordsmen if you plan on PVE’ing for the majority.
Pikemen is the type of profession that you have to love to do. To be as effective as a swordmsmen in PVE or a fencer in PVP requires a lot of time, money and dedication. It won’t come easy and it won’t come fast.
Purchasing speed tapes (you only have +75 at master, you need in the neighborhood of 92 to be at the speed cap for most weapons) is a very expensive proposition. It will make you a lot more effective.
You need some good mind DOT lances for PVP to be effective (millions here to most likely), and you will want a nice high damage looted Pike (awefully expensive but not necessarily needed). If you don’t have millions plan on hunting nightsisters non-stop for a long long time.
There are nasty ham costs which mean you need to be fully buffed (doc buffs, brandy etc), but a lot of people seem to already be doing that so not sure if it needs mentioned.
The bottomline is the other professions will provide you with more immediate rewards. Pikemen can be just as effective in PVE & PVP but you have to put a lot more investment into it than you do the others. I love the profession. I can’t imagine anything else. I would recommend only to the most dedicated though.
